The worth of New York Yankees Alex Rodriguez has been scrutinized more times than Kim Kardashian’s love life. Alex Rodriguez #13 But the kind of worth I am referring to is not the paycheck kind, as why would anyone worry about the money other than the people signing the checks? The worth I am speaking of is winning. Winning a baseball game is a team effort and sometimes the absence of one player can throw the team for a loop. As this can even make the most flourishing, and unbreakable seeming teams beatable. It is no secret that the Yankees are losing lately, but they are not getting blown out. That is because the starting pitching has been sturdy; and minus Ivan Nova, the other four have been putting the Yankees in winning positions. The problem of late is that the bats are not getting the job done, and losing one-two and three run games, which is beyond frustrating. And I deem a lot of the issue here is due to the absence of A-rod. So, I did some digging and found that in three of...

  • Team sports, especially baseball are exactly that...team efforts- win or lose.

The Yanks tore up the league DESPITE A-Rod' s futility in clutch situation... because being so deep , the rest of the team , core and bench/bullpen players played winning games. Now the same team is playing losing games...and it is not because A-Rod's futility in clutch situation is no longer a factor in his absence. It's because that simply is the quiddity of baseball. Through a long season, there are winning and losing streaks...or playing .500 games as if taking a breather, for the longest yards down the stretch.

Especially in post-regular seasons , the Yanks have been DAMAGED by a "disappearing act" player who could not be demoted from clean-up position because his name is A-Rod. Any other player who consistently shows such predictable futility would be routinely yanked out in favor of any hot hitting player. But NOT when the highest paid player is involved.

A-Rod's true value for the Yanks is as a TROPHY figure, especially for an owner who relished in collecting them, sometimes even at the expense of a proven player(Tino for Jason). Through his 9 yr tenure at the Bronx, except in 2009, A-Rod has not proven his worth as a clean-up batter when it counts. I concede the fact he probably is among the best on third but not to the indispensable extent that he cannot be replaced as effectively by a Chavez.

Kate's gushing over A-Rod until now is just as baffling to me as his bashing of Phil Hughes in April.

Leave it to Kate... and her propensity for selectively pointing out happenstance data/stat of questionable relevance.

Yankees reliever Cody Eppley took a ball off the noggin courtesy of teammate Eric Chavez (VIDEO)

Baseball players know that the occasional beaning is all a part of the game.  Except that normally you don’t expect to get nailed in the head by one of your own teammates, which is exactly what happened to Yankees reliever Cody Eppley during the sixth inning of Tuesday night’s game against the Tigers. Eppley wasn’t paying attention to the infielders throwing the ball around...

Why New York Yankees fans are learning about karma

A. J. Burnett (Photo credit: Wikipedia) Whoever said that AJ Burnett couldn’t pitch should be putting their foot back in their mouth, as he could very well win the NL CY Young this season. I have always been a Burnett fan since his days with the Florida Marlins; so I was thrilled when the Yankees signed him in 2009 and went on to win the World Series that season. Burnett had his...

Cody Eppley hit in noggin by toss from teammate Eric Chavez (Video)

New York Yankees pitcher Cody Eppley was hit right in the head accidentally by a toss from teammate Eric Chavez during Tuesday night's game at Comerica Park against the Detroit Tigers. It happened after the Yankees recorded the second out of the sixth inning on a groundout by Tigers batter Jhonny Peralta. The Yankees tossed the ball around the infield, and Chavez tossed...

Casey at the Bag: You can't spell McGehee without an extra E

Last night, we dodged a bullet. A hollow point. Casey McGehee - the newly shaven firstbaseman who is holding third for us until Arod's hand can once again grip a lobster fork - butchered a DP grounder, which nearly lead to a late inning collapse of Biblical proportions. Or at least the stuff of literary domain. ("That aint my style," said Casey. "E-5,"...

Derek Jeter Watches U.S. Women's Soccer Edge Canada, Asks if Game Could Be Shown Near Batting Cages

The Yankees looked pretty bad against the Tigers on Monday night, striking out 14 times and mustering no earned runs against Detroit's Justin Verlander. But don't give the reigning American League MVP and Cy Young winner all of the credit in this one. The Yankees may have been a little distracted coming in. Derek Jeter seemed reticent to head to batting practice Monday. His...

Granderson, Yankees end Tigers' win streak

DETROIT (AP) -- Curtis Granderson snapped out of a short slump by hitting his 30th homer and driving four runs, helping the New York Yankees beat Detroit Tigers 12-8 Wednesday night and ending the Tigers' six-game winning streak. Down 7-0, the Tigers chased CC Sabathia and closed to 8-7 in the seventh inning. The AL East-leading Yankees, who had lost 12 of their previous 18...

Yanks In The Playoffs: Some Thoughts On Those Painful First-Round Exits

Last night, as the Yankees moved closer to losing their second straight game to the Detroit Tigers, a thought popped into my head that I am sure would be considered almost blasphemous had a Yankee fan known I was thinking it. (Actually, I tweeted it, but it seems to have gone unnoticed.) Here's the thought:Why even bother trying to make the playoffs if you're always going...

Baltimore Orioles call up top prospect Manny Machado

Last night the Baltimore Orioles brass announced Manny Machado would be called up. Drafted 3rd overall by Baltimore in 2010, Machado has been impressing in the minors since his debut. With a skill set that has drawn comparisons to Alex Rodriguez, there is a definite excitement surrounding Machado. But as is expected, this decision has its naysayers. Heading into the trade deadline...
