Yankees Call-Up Buddy Carlyle, Demote Hector Noesi

The Yankees announced yesterday that they went sending RHP Hector Noesi back to the minor leagues and instead will call-up RHP Buddy Carlyle because they want Noesi, who hasn’t pitched at all since being recalled, getting regular work. To make room for Carlyle on the 40-man roster the Yankees have designated LHP Jose Ortegano for assignement. This is a smart move as Noesi is probably going to be the first pitcher called up if the Yankees need another starter so they really do need him getting regular work. This does leave them without a long-man in the bullpen, but Carlyle could probably go three innings and Lance Pendleton has already shown he’s able to do the same. Carlyle, 33, has played in the majors for three different teams, the Padres, Dodgers, and Braves, since 1999. In that time he has tossed 245.2 innings to a 5.61 ERA. In 7.2 innings pitched Carlyle has a 3.52 ERA in Triple-A this season. Ortegano has never pitched in the majors and has a career 4.05 ERA...
