New York Yankees second baseman Robinson Cano is in Saturday's lineup a day after getting hit in the left hand with a pitch. Cano underwent X-rays on the hand, which came back negative. Cano, batting fourth against the Toronto Blue Jays, hit a sacrifice fly in his first at-bat. Cano was hit by a pitch in the sixth inning of the Yankees' 11-4 win over Toronto on Friday. He stayed in the game and was sent to a hospital for tests afterward. "I was worried a little bit," Cano said on MLB.com. "The good thing was when I was swinging in that (last) at-bat, I didn't feel anything. That was a good sign." Yankees manager Joe Girardi said there was concern that there might be more than just soreness in the hand. "I felt pretty good about it that he was able to stay in the game, but with the hand, there's all those little bones that you worry about," Girardi said. Cano entered Saturday hitting .301 with 30 home runs and 83 RBI in 15...

Yankees' Jayson Nix to Miss 10-14 Days

Yesterday, a strange thing happened.  Eduardo Nunez was removed from the Yankees game and Derek Jeter moved from DH out to shortstop.  This left Andy Pettitte slotted in the lineup to hit.  Of course, things worked themselves out and Pettitte did not have to bat, but Nunez's exit magnified the absence of Jayson Nix.  Nix had reported back to New York yesterday...

Doing the analysis: Right now, a one-game playoff would fall on Phil Hughes' shoulders

OK, get out your slide-rules, because this is technical stuff, or as the Yankiverse likes to view it: thoughtful speculation. If the election were held today - that is, we face Baltimore next Thursday in a Division playoff - we could face Chris Tillman, coming off his legendary, one-hit masterpiece over Pawtucket. Hard to say, because Buck hasn't yet announced Sunday'...

Yankees 11, Blue Jays 4
