Jason WhitneyYanks’ GM Brian Cashman responds to the claims of Derek Jeter being overweight The last few days Yankee fans have seen photo images of their beloved Derek Jeter in not the greatest of shape. Whether it be him in a walking boot or the extra spare tire around the waist line, Yankee fans have not seen this side of The Captain. Yankee general manager, Brian Cashman responded to questions about Jeter’s surgically repaired ankle and his weight. Via TheNYDailyNews: Not to worry, says Yanks GM Brian Cashman, no one should be concerned about Jeter’s condition. Or conditioning. The shortstop’s rehab from the operation to repair his broken ankle is “going really well,” Cashman said Friday. “He’s going to be ready for us by Opening Day. He’ll be a restricted player for us early in camp, but all indications are very strong for a full and healthy recovery. We just have to wait for the healing process to complete itself.” When asked about the recent photo of Derek Jeter and the potential weight gain Cashman said he’s not worried. “The one thing you don’t have to worry about is Derek Jeter. The bottom line is, the most important thing Derek can do right now is rest. When you’re dealing with high-end competitors, trying to make sure they stay off that foot – we lived through that (last season) with Andy Pettitte … You can’t speed up the healing process. Right now, doctor’s orders are rest. “There’s nothing about Derek Jeter that I have to worry about, other than rest.” Cashman said no doctor from any of Jeter’s recent checkups had said anything about the shortstop being overweight. Derek Jeter has his ankle in a walking boot and hasn’t been able to work out in a while. He’s gotten a bit bloated and there is a meme series called “Fat Derek Jeter” starting to blow up on the web.
By the looks of his new bloated physique, it appears that Derek Jeter has been rehabbing his injured ankle by training with C.C. Sabathia during the offseason. BuzzFeed made a hilarious meme out of the larger than life Derek Jeter and so of course I stole the idea and ran with it, which is exactly what the Captain of the Yankees should be doing right now.

During the general managers' meetings last month, Brian Cashman was asked about his plans for a player recovering from surgery.
