Vazquez with the Yankees in 2010 (Photo by Andrew Burton/Getty Images) That is not a joke. Multiple reports name the Yankees as one of several teams who are said to be keeping an eye on Javier Vazquez’s outings in winter ball.  Also keeping an eye out are the Red Sox and Nationals. Vazquez is reportedly touching 95 MPH during his outings, and plans to pitch in the World Baseball Classic as he attempts to find a team for the 2013 season. Vazquez sat out the 2012 season after pitching for the Florida Marlins in 2011. In six winter ball starts this offseason, Vazquez has recorded a 3.52 ERA with 30 strikeouts and six walks in 23 innings. The 36-year-old last pitched for the Yankees in 2010, pitching to a 10-10 record with a 5.32 ERA. While the Yankees are very likely to bring in a veteran starter on a minor-league deal, I can’t possibly fathom it being Vazquez. Two tours of duty in the Bronx were bad enough, and it is difficult to believe that the fan base will be willing to suffer through a third attempt at success. Follow Dan on Twitter at @danpfeiffer74.
