I must have missed this yesterday, but along with the cuts the Yankees made yesterday they also cut right handed pitchers Jason Hirsh and Dustin Moseley as well, according to Bryan Hoch of MLB.com. That leaves 44 players left in the major league camp.
Hirsh has impressed the Yankees staff since joining the organization. Last season he put up a 1.35 ERA in 26.2 innings at triple-A Scranton and pitched well in 3.2 innings over four relief appearances this spring. Earlier this season Hirsh said he’s finally healthy and is pitching up to his abilities. He’ll likely start the season in the Scranton rotation.
I thought with 168 major league innings in his career he might have lasted in camp longer, but Mosely was cut after putting up a 9.95 ERA in five appearances over 6.1 innings this spring. Moseley is probably this years version of Brett Tomko. He’s likely destined for the Scranton bullpen and would likely only get called up in an emergency.
