While Alex Rodriguez's rehab is making all the headlines because of the drama between he and New York Yankees' GM Brian Cashman, Derek Jeter is quietly continuing his recovery process.  He recently progressed to running outside and hopes to be able to run the bases very soon. According to an Associated Press report and confirmed by ESPN New York, Jeter ran outside this week for the first time in to months.  Running outside is significant because it's a closer simulation to what his ankle will go through in game situations.  Running on a treadmill is far more controlled.  Jeter said running outside and running bases is the last step before he can start playing minor league games.* And his ankle is feeling good. "Everything is good," Jeter said. "No problems whatsoever. I've done everything else. It's a constant progression." *Interestingly, Brian Cashman did not tell Derek Jeter to "shut the f--- up" when he spoke about the possibility of playing games soon. Blogging for Susie Jeter fractured his ankle during the ALCS last season against the Detroit Tigers.  The Yankees went on to lose that series and in turn they lost Jeter for far longer than expected.  Jeter was supposed to return to the Yankees' lineup Opening Day.  During spring training, that seemed plausible at times then a stretch at others.  Finally, Jeter suffered a slight re-break of the ankle that put him on the shelf again.  He has not played at all in 2013. Last year, Jeter had a phenomenal season.  The Yankees were hoping this year could be a repeat of that, but now, with an ankle surgery and two fractures behind him, the question is surrounding how much he has left.  Can he be the Jeter of old?  Can he remain at shortstop?  These questions will be answered, but first Jeter needs to get back on the field. Report: A-Rod doubts Yanks' motives

Alex Rodriguez is champing at the bit to get back on the baseball field, but the Yankees might be pulling the reins on the 14-time All-Star. Rodriguez believes the Yankees are purposely slowing his return to their active roster in attempt to declare him medically unable to play for the 2013 season. That would allow them to regain $22.4 million of his $28 million salary through insurance...

Harlem Globetrotters Draft Mariano Rivera

When New York Yankees closer Mariano Rivera finally hangs up his cleats following this season, it's possible he might have another job already lined up. For absolutely no reason, the Harlem Globetrotters "drafted" the all-time saves leader on Tuesday. “And in the fourth quarter, when the Globetrotters need to close out a game, who better than the best closer...

Column: What part of 'shut ... up' did A-Rod miss?

(Eds: With AP Photos.) By JIM LITKE AP Sports Writer The instructions were so simple it makes you wonder what part of ''just shut ... up'' Alex Rodriguez didn't understand. Yankees GM Brian Cashman's directive the other day was calibrated for maximum effect, sure. He knew exactly what he was doing. It's why he tucked a profanity in the middle. But Cashman...
