Hughes wasn’t able to hold down the potent lineup in today’s 9-3 loss to the Detroit Tigers.
The Yankees turned to Phil Hughes to carry the momentum of yesterday’s win into today’s game. Unfortunately, the Tigers had the momentum right away. In the first inning, the former Yankee farmhand Austin Jackson got the game going with a leadoff triple. Torii Hunter would bring home Jackson with a sacrifice fly deep enough to put the Tigers ahead.
In the third inning, Miguel Cabrera continued with his powerful swing. After tying yesterday’s game, he took an inside fastball off the plate to deep left field for his 35th home run of the season.
