New York Yankees 4 — Cleveland Indians 2

Curtis Granderson hit his 200th career home run in today’s 4-2 win over the Cleveland Indians in the rubber game of the 3-game series.

Freddy Garcia started today’s game and was unable to finish the 5th inning despite giving up just 2 runs. Garcia would go 4.2 innings with 6 strikeouts and 2 walks on 90 pitches but Joe Girardi was managing for the team win. With the tying run on 3rd base with 2 outs in the 5th, Boone Logan was called on for the last out and would succeed. Logan got 5 of the 6 batters that he faced out in his 1.2 innings of work. David Robertson would come in for 1.1 innings of work and Rafael Soriano was called on for his 3rd 4-out save of the season. The big scare of Soriano’s appearance came on a ball hit back at Soriano by second baseman Jason Kipnis that hit the base of his right hand but he got the out and would eventually finish off the game for his 33rd save of the season.

The Yankees had a well-manufactured 3-run 2nd inning. Two singles and a walk brought in one run. Then with runners on 1st and 2nd, Chris Stewart hit a perfect sacrifice bunt to advance the batters. The next productive out came on Derek Jeter’s ground out to bring in a second run. Nick Swisher continues to swing a hot bat as he brought in the 3rd run of the inning. The Indians would cut the difference to one until Curtis Granderson came up in the 6th inning. With left-handed reliever Tony Sipp pitching, Curtis Granderson hit a high arcing home run to right field that barely cleared the wall but it was enough for his 200th home run of his career. This gave some wiggle room for the Yankees and was enough offense to get the win of the rubber game.

Win – Boone Logan (5-2)

Loss – Ubaldo Jimenez (9-13)

Save – Rafael Soriano (33)

Skip Bayless opened the flood gates on the topic of Jeter and steroids on Wednesday when he questioned if the 38-year-old was having an amazing season through the use of PED’s. Now, it’s not as if Skip (even with all his trollish foilbles) pulled this question out of thin air, after 2 major players have been caught using banned substances this past week alone. Was Skip within...

Sabathia made his return from the DL last night in a big way. He looked better than 100% after going 7.1 innings, allowing four hits, just one earned run, and struck out nine batters as the Yankees picked up a much...

Joe DiMaggio vs. Mickey Mantle

The New York Yankees may very well have the most storied history in professional sports. They have set the bar for greatness for sports as well, amassing an incredible 27 World Series Championships and 40 American League Pennants. Of course,a franchise can’t have such a rich history without legendary ballplayers, and the Yanks are unmatched in that department by a wide margin...

Open Letter to Joe Girardi: It is time to put your best hitter - Derek Jeter - batting third

Dear Madam or Sir,It is said that next door neighbors cannot savor the Grand Canyon. Usher grew tired of Heidi Klum's face. By 60, Pete Townsend couldn't hear a note the Who was playing. One tragic flaw of humanity is our incredible ability to overlook the obvious. So let us now state the obvious:The heart of the Yankees should bat in the heart of their order.Bat...

Teixeira Leaves Game With Calf Injury

Mark Teixeira had to leave tonight’s game in the top of the fifth inning with a left calf strain. He’s headed for an MRI to check the extent of the injury. If there are any updates I will let you know. Hopefully it's nothing too serious. Haven't we dealt with enough of this crap already?

The Eric Chavez Problem

It’s always good when the Yankees come to town for a weekend series.  The Indians get to sell some tickets and their fans get to see real, live baseballing players.  It’s a win-win, really. There was one of those baseballers from the Bronx who caught my eye this weekend in particular, and made me think some Tribe thoughts.  I think too often we look at the Bombers and see...
