New York Yankees 4 — Baltimore Orioles 5   A controversial call ends a big night in a 5-4 loss to the Baltimore Orioles.   CC Sabathia struggled in tonight’s game as he gave up 5 runs on 8 hits, including 3 home runs. In the 2nd inning, the man that has hurt the Yankees all season, Mark Reynolds, got to the Yankees ace. For Reynolds, this was his 7th home run against the Yankees this season. Before Sabathia knew it, he would give up a home run to the next batter, Lew Ford, too. This was another instance that a Yankees pitcher had a lead and gave it back nearly immediately after receiving it. He would then lose the tie game with a J.J. Hardy double in the 3rd inning. Hardy would get to Sabathia once more as he led off the 6th inning with a home run. This home run would be the 21st home run that Sabathia gave up, making it his new career-high. Lew Ford would also get to Sabathia again with a run-scoring single in the 6th inning. Eppley would hold the Orioles off the scoreboard through 1.2 innings.   The Yankees offense got started early but the damage was much less than it should have been. After a Jeter single and a double by the returning Teixeira, only one run came home on a sacrifice fly by Alex Rodriguez. Then in the 2nd, a leadoff walk by Russell Martin, Ichiro Suzuki came through with a double to bring him home. Alex Rodriguez would come through again with a home run to deep center field in the 8th inning. Curtis Granderson came up with the tying run on 1st base with 2 outs but popped a 2-1 pitch out to end the threat. The 9th inning against closer Jim Johnson started out with a great rally. Ichiro Suzuki, Eric Chavez, and Derek Jeter hit consecutive singles to load the bases with no outs. A ground out to short by Nick Swisher brought in one and he was able to get to 1st before the throw to put runners on the corners with just 1 out, the lead runner being the potential game-tying run. The controversial end came on what would be called a double play on a ground ball by Mark Teixeira. The Yankees first baseman entered tonight’s game with an injured calf and the hustle he exhibited on this game-ending double play was outstanding but the calf could not hold up for the entire run. If Teixeira reaches, the game would be tied and he slid headfirst into first base and was called out on what turned out to be a terrible call. Teixeira reached first base well before the throw reached 1st baseman Mark Reynolds and 1st base umpire Jerry Meals made the incorrect call.   Win – Joe Saunders (8-11) Loss – CC Sabathia (13-5) Save – Jim Johnson (42)   Notables Yankees *Ichiro Suzuki – 2 for 4, R, 2B, RBI (45) *Alex Rodriguez – 1 for 3, R, Solo Home Run (17) in the 8th, 2 RBI (50) Orioles *Lew Ford – 2 for 4, R, Solo Home Run (3) in the 2nd, 2 RBI (4) *J.J. Hardy – 2 for 4, R, 2B, Solo Home Run (19) in the 6th, 2 RBI (59)   Current Yankees Record: 78-61
