Phil Hughes will try to duplicate the success of his last start, as he takes the mound again tonight in Toronto

Last night the Yankees suffered another disappointing loss as the Yankees went down to Toronto, 8-1. Once again the offensive unit was kept quiet, wile Hiroki Kuroda struggled on the mound and the Blue Jays took advantage with the long ball.

Tonight the Yankees will try to bounce back and take game two to split this road series before they head back to the Bronx for a weekend of inter-league play.

Phil Hughes will take the mound for the Yankees tonight, coming off of his best performance of the season in his last start, going 7.2 innings in a 6-2 win over the Seattle Mariners. Still having a lot to prove, Hughes needs another successful outing tonight to keep the Yankees in the game.

Starting for the Blue Jays is the young righty, Drew Hutchison, who just made his Major League debut at the end of April. He’s giving up a lot of hits and runs to start his career, but seems to be settling down as the season goes on. The Yankees need to take advantage of his inexperience and lock in quick to get him rattled.

Mark Teixeira manning 1st base. The New York Yankees lost in Toronto for the second night in a row 4-1, and once again it was at the hand of the dead bats who left another 16 runners on base in both defeats. Even without top stuff, Yanks' Hughes manages solid outing

New York Yankees right-hander Phil Hughes didn't have a good feel for his breaking pitches Thursday night, so he decided to let his fastball carry him as far as it could take him. It took him pretty far, as the right-hander held the Toronto Blue Jays to two runs over 5 1/3 innings, his lone mistake coming on a third-inning home run by Jose Bautista. The Yankees dropped a 4...

Blue Jays complete sweep of Yankees

TORONTO - The home run ball got Phil Hughes again. The New York Yankees right-hander tried to get a 3-2 cutter past Jose Bautista in the third inning on Thursday. It spun instead of cut, and Hughes watched it soar over the fence for a two-run home run. J.P. Arencibia also hit a two-run homer against reliever Cory Wade in the seventh and the Toronto Blue Jays completed a sweep...

New York Yankees: Why I hope you lose again tonight in Toronto

Watching the New York Yankees lose 8-1 to the Toronto Blue Jays last night has been no different from the other eight losses Yankee fans have had to endure this May. Russell Martin (Photo credit: Wikipedia) Hiroki Kuroda stunk, as he gave up three homers, seven earned runs in five innings pitched but that didn’t really bother me. Would I have liked to see Kuroda have two good...

Offseason additions bolster Dodgers' pitching staff

The Dodgers made a tough decision in the offseason to not re-sign starting pitcher Hiroki Kuroda, who ultimately signed with the Yankees. But the Dodgers used that money to sign a pair of starters, both of whom have paid dividends for the Dodgers so far this season. Chris Capuano was signed to a two-year, $10 million contract, and through his first eight starts was 5-1 with a 2...

RISP Rears It's Ugly Head Again For The Yankees

A stat I read at the LoHud Yankees Blog says it all: In their 8 loses this month, the Yankees are 3-52 with runners in scoring position. It includes last night in Toronto where they were 1-8 with RISP. Hiroki Kuroda was terrible (5 IP, 8H, 7R, 3HR, 2BB, 6 SO), and his offense did nothing to soften the blows. They didn't get their second hit until the 6th inning. They acted as...

Yankees-Blue Jays Preview

The New York Yankees' Hiroki Kuroda has settled in nicely following a rocky start to the season. After impressing in the early going, the Toronto Blue Jays' Kyle Drabek has, in contrast, had a hard time hitting his spots of late. With Kuroda looking to build on another strong outing and Drabek hoping to avoid losing a fifth consecutive start, these AL East rivals open their...

Early two-out runs propel Blue Jays past Yankees

TORONTO -- New York Yankees right-hander Hiroki Kuroda came within a few pitches of getting out of trouble in consecutive innings Wednesday. However, mistakes on pitches with two outs in the second and third innings resulted in the Blue Jays putting up five runs. That was more than enough offense for Toronto right-hander Kyle Drabek. The Blue Jays hit four home runs, and Drabek...

Not-So-Rapid Reaction: Blue Jays 8, Yankees 1

For the third straight game, Robinson Cano scored a run after doubling. If I were to follow the maxim of saying only good things, that would be the end of this article. The Yankees lost 8-1 last night, this time to the Toronto Blue Jays at the place I’m not technically allowed to call SkyDome. With the beatdown, the Bombers fall to 20-17, just a single loss better than their opponents...
