New York Yankees
Fresh off a series win against the Mariners, CC Sabathia takes the ball and hopes to extend his recent run of success. Over the past 16.1 innings, Sabathia has given up five runs while striking out 19. Last game saw an increase in his velocity, especially as the game went on – a good sign for CC and the Yanks. Vernon Wells, who is 10-for-80 over his last 22 games, will get a much needed day off – Ichiro will move to left with Lyle Overbay out in right. Opposing New York will be former Yankee Bartolo Colon. With CC Sabathia once again pitching poorly in Oakland and the Athletics continuing their hot streak at home, last night's Yankee loss was as predictable as it was painful. Something that was not predictable was the announcement before the game that Robinson Cano had been named AL captain of this year's Home Run Derby.I would have thought that last year's horrible experience...
Derek Jeter was scheduled to meet with his surgeon this week in Charlotte, NC as part of a follow up examination on his injured ankle. He apparently had that meeting over the weekend, and received some good news.
Jeter took 25 dry-swings and fielded grounders right at him on Monday in Tampa, according to Andrew Marchand of ESPN New York. This represents a step in the right direction...
J.R. Murphy is headed to the Electric City.
“Murphy’s outta here, he’s gone to Scranton,” Tony Franklin told me during his post-game media session. “A lot of people think he’s a pretty good player and that it’s time for him to move on.”
The loss of J.R. Murphy to the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders is a difficult blow for the Trenton Thunder. After spending his off...
LONG ROAD TO RECOVERY
Yankees shortstop Derek Jeter took another step in his rehab by increasing his baseball activity on Monday by taking ground balls and swinging the bat.
- Michael Pineda is one step closer to a return after a successful outing in the Florida State League:
- Kevin Youkilis missed Sunday's game in Seattle with lower back stiffness, but the injury isn't anything major. “It’s nothing like it was before,” Youkilis said. “Just needs a little rest.”
- And in case you missed it, Chien Ming Wang opted out of his...
Brett Gardner had his best week of the season by hitting .520, with 1 HR, and 6 RBI’s.
In a week that saw the Yankees sweep the Cleveland Indians, and take 3 out of 4 from the Seattle Mariners, the New York Yankees player of the week is Brett Gardner. Gardy has been flying under the radar for most of the season while putting together a career season. Over the last 7 days, Gardner...
The New York Yankees have signed their 2013 first-round draft pick, 3B Eric Jagielo to a contract. Jagielo who received the compensation slotted for the No.26 selection will receive a $1,839,400 bonus.
Jagielo is one of three players selected by the Yankees in the first round this season, with the others being pitcher Ian Clarkin and outfielder Aaron Judge.
Jagielo, who played baseball...
New York brought the tying run to the plate in the ninth inning last night but fell to the A’s 6-4. Tonight, Phil Hughes gets the start with hopes of delivering a win for the team, who are 3-2 on the current 10 game West Coast road trip. Starting for the A’s will be righty Dan Straily. New York Yankees Derek Jeter has started more baseball activities in his continued rehab at Tampa, Florida minor league complex.
Jeter starting fielding grounders hit directly at him as well as swinging a bat. Derek had been with the team through their last homestand and was seen playing catch in the outfield.
The Captain is scheduled to see the surgeon who performed the original...
Mariano Rivera will hang up the spikes after this season, and the surefire Hall of Famer is being sure to give back before he calls it a career.
Rivera already took the time to meet with and sign autographs for a large group of Cleveland Indians team staff back in April. On Wednesday, during his final regular-season trip to Oakland, the closer arrived at O.co Coliseum with a surprise...
This will be the easiest and most accurate prediction I have made in the last 20 years:The Yankees recent draft will not yield a single player of value for the Yankees.Read all the scouting reports you want; listen to the radio waves; follow them on the minor league sites; do whatever investigative work baseball fans do.The Yankees recent draft will not yield a single player...
After winning three of four games vs. the Mariners in Seattle over the weekend, the New York Yankees get a well deserved day off before starting a three game set down in Oakland against the Athletics.

The A’s are in a Moneyball year, meaning that it is a season when this team is good.
Actually, the A’s were good last year too...
Major League Baseball announced that Robinson Cano (AL) and David Wright (NL) will be the captains for the upcoming All-Star Game Home Run Derby on July 15th at Citi Field in New York. Wright and Cano will be selecting three teammates each to round out the AL and NL squads. It's unclear whether Cano will select Kansas City's Billy Butler—who Cano snubbed when he was captain...
It doesn’t seem like 10 years since Jay-Z opened his first 40/40 Club. Time is just flying by, Bob Blitz courtesy of the New York Post, says Jay-Z is pulling out all the stops for the celebration.
Jay-Z is celebrating the 10-year anniversary of his famed 40/40 Club on Monday with a star-studded affair attended by Yankees Robinson Cano, CC Sabathia and Alex Rodriguez along with...
The MLB All-Star Game captains, Robinson Cano and David Wright show off their new garb for the game at Citi-Field. The uniforms are pretty generic for an All-Star game, but those hats could be the worst in ASG history. With all the old school homage Citi throws in your face, they could’ve just done flat out better. Leave it up to the mets to blow it. We’re sure they’ll still...
