Toronto Blue Jays 1 — New York Yankees 6

CC Sabathia returned from the disabled list with 6 shutout innings in tonight’s 6-1 win over the Toronto Blue Jays.

CC Sabathia went onto the disabled list with a slight groin strain prior to the All-Star break and his return was like he never left. With pinpoint control and a Blue Jays lineup without the recently injured Jose Bautista, Sabathia went 6 innings with 6 strikeouts and no runs on just 87 pitches. With the Yankees offense on point as usual, the decision was well in hand until some struggles by relievers Chad Qualls and Clay Rapada. After ending the shutout when he surrendered a sacrifice fly in the 8th, Qualls would get one out in his second inning of work along with a double and a walk. Clay Rapada would replace Qualls and would give up rookie Anthony Gose’s first major league hit on a bunt single that should have produced an out. With the bases loaded and the potential tying run on deck, Rafael Soriano was called upon for another save opportunity in the middle of the 9th inning. Five pitches from the Yankees closer got the final 2 outs as J.P. Arencibia lined into an unassisted double play at first base by Mark Teixeira.

Andruw Jones supplied the early Yankees offense with a three-run home run in the 2nd inning. This home run made it the 41st straight game that the Yankees have scored at least 3 runs, the longest streak in franchise history. The Yankees would continue scoring with a 3-run 7th inning highlighted by back-to-back doubles by Chris Stewart and Derek Jeter for two runs. Robinson Cano continued his hot hitting as a 2nd inning single extended his hitting streak to a career-high 20 games.

Win – CC Sabathia (10-3)

Loss – Brett Cecil (2-2)

Save – Rafael Soriano (24)

Blue Jays

*Jeff Mathis – 1 for 3, R, 2B

*Edwin Encarnacion – 2 for 4, 2 2B

*Andruw Jones – 1 for 3, R, 3-Run Home Run (12) in the 2nd, 3 RBI (25)

*Derek Jeter – 2 for 4, R, 2B, RBI (27)

Current Yankees Record: 56-34

Open Letter to Brian Cashman: Don't even pick up the phone

Dear Madam or Sir,Once again, the Yankiverse is buzzing over potential trades. Because it's July, we always go through this pointless charade, like the 12 days of Christmas, wondering who we can get. And if we do cut a deal, it's immediately cheered and a year later, lambasted. This year, let's do nothing. That was the policy of perhaps the greatest GM in modern...

Fan Gets Yankees Logo Tattooed Onto Tooth, Can't Decide Between Saving Wife or Derek Jeter (Video)

Some fans are extreme. Other fans take their passion to ridiculous levels. That's the case for one Yankees fan, who claims to be the Bronx Bombers' biggest supporter. His passion includes plenty of merchandise, as well as a tattoo in a rather unusual location. The superfan has a Yankees logo tattooed onto his tooth, something his dentist did as a surprise while he was undergoing...

Yankees' backup left fielders keep coming through

Brett Gardner has appeared in just nine games for the Yankees this season, and none since injuring his right (non-throwing) elbow attempting a diving catch on April 17. As general manager Brian Cashman said Sunday, the Yankees barely have missed the speedy outfielder and lineup pest because of the presence of two aging players whose skill sets won't be confused with Gardner...

Yanks Hope Record Streak Continues in a W

Yankeetorial: We can put a golf cart on Mars and find the Higgs Boson, but we can't decipher the mysteries of Brett Gardner and Eduardo Nunez?

I offer two words to summarize the ongoing status of Yankee LF Brett Gardner's problem elbow.Quack. Quack.Good grief, what are they using to analyze it, a divining rod? Who's running the show, the team midwife? Gardner's been crocheting in front of the daytime boob tube since Tax Day, his arm wrapped in tin foil, but when he visits Marcus Welby for a monthly checkup...

Yankees 6, Blue Jays 3

NEW YORK -- Toronto Blue Jays reliever Jason Frasor had just frozen Nick Swisher on a called third strike with the bases loaded to record the second out of the eighth inning and quiet the Yankee Stadium crowd. Frasor appeared in position to escape the jam with the score still tied, but, as opponents have said all season, there is little relief in the New York Yankees lineup. ...

Yankees sweep Blue Jays, keep having fun

NEW YORK -- Nick Swisher doesn't usually need much reason to display his enthusiastic energy, it's easy to see why after the latest win for his New York Yankees. The Yankees peppered Toronto Blue Jays starter Ricky Romero for four runs on five hits in the first inning, including a requisite home run, in Wednesday's 6-0 rain-shortened victory at Yankee Stadium. The...

Yanks closing in on run-scoring record

Yes, the New York Yankees have hit just .235 with runners in scoring position this season. And they are extremely reliant on the home run. But that hasn't stopped them from closing in on a major league record with an impressive offensive streak. With a four-run first inning in a 6-0 win Wednesday over Toronto, the Yanks became just the second team in the live ball era (since...

Brett's Elbow May Have Been Stolen And Sold As Part Of Body Part Scandal

The news broke today that more than 1 billion body parts have been illegally harvested and sold for profit. The Doctors, as we know, have so far been unable to diagnose what is wrong with Brett Gardner's elbow.Perhaps that is because he no longer has one.  A Red Socks terrorist may well have visited him in his sleep and removed it. It may now be on the best throwing arm of the...

A look at Joe DiMaggio (Video)

On the anniversary of Joe DiMaggio's 56 game hitting streak we take a look at Joltin' Joe's career. Joe DiMaggio, nicknamed "Joltin' Joe" and "The Yankee Clipper", played his entire 13-year career for the New York Yankees. He is perhaps best known for his 56-game hitting streak (May 15 – July 16, 1941), a record that still...

Yankees 6, Blue Jays 1

Jose Bautista was worried his injury was worse. The star slugger landed on the 15-day disabled list Tuesday but was relieved to learn there's no structural damage in his ailing left wrist. He thinks he could return to Toronto's lineup as soon as he's eligible, though manager John Farrell said it's too early to tell. ''The last thing that we want is to push...
