With the game on the line heading into the ninth last night, the Yankees trailed the Oakland A’s 4-2. After a one-out home run from Nick Swisher, it looked like there was still a spark left as they pulled within one. But Ryan Cook quickly diminished those hopes and retired the next to batter to hang on for a 4-3 win.
Perhaps it was the jet-lag that got to the team from their cross-cou try trip the night before, because prior to that loss they’ve been on a roll. The pinstripes are 5-2 since the All-Star break and have kept it hot all month long with a 10-5 record in July.
Due to a lack-luster performance by Freddy Garcia, as well as a quiet night at the plate, the Yankees will look to bounce back from last night’s loss when Ivan Nova takes to the mound tonight. Nova hasn’t had his best month of baseball and will need to turn it back around. He’s just 1-2 in July while holding a high 5.00 ERA. The A’s jumped on Garcia early last night, so Nova will need his best stuff right out of the gate tonight to prevent a repeat. Nova has been pretty solid this season and just needs to find his stride again to finish out the month strong. Being on the road may give him a better chance to do so as well, winning 13 of his last 14 away decisions.
A’s lefty, Tommy Milone, will face the hot Bomber lineup tonight, who is 9-6 with a 3.54 ERA on the year. His lack of experience against this explosive opposing offense may come back to hurt him. The offense has been going full steam ahead as well, scoring at least three runs in every game this month, a minimum of four in all of their wins. Robinson Cano is maintaining a 22-game hit streak and has been leading the Bombers as of late. The pitching hasn’t been so consistent but the bats have made up for it.
The Yankees currently sit atop the MLB with baseball’s best record right now. But never comfortable in New York, the Yankees will strive for continued dominance and get back their winning ways with a victory tonight.

The New York Yankees have been without Brett Gardnerin left field all but nine games this season, and the impact could have been catastrophic but it hasn’t been.

The Yankees are no doubt slower sans the speedy Gardner, as the Yankees rank 24th in steals with 50 on the season, skipper Joe Girardi and GM Brian Cashman utilization of a left fielder...

Michael O’Connor and D.J. Mitchell split last night’s game for Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, combining to shut out the Charlotte Knights 2-0. O’Connor, who started, allowed just three hits while striking out five batters in four innings. Mitchell would then enter in relief...

Yankees infielders Derek Jeter and Alex Rodriguez had an adventure on the basepaths after Oakland A' left fielder Yoenis Cespedes dropped a line drive. Apparently YES broadcaster Ken Singleton is the...

Brian Cashman's legacy trade victim was seen yesterday lounging on a steel re-enforced bench, after sprinting 11 feet." My arm feels great and I look forward to moving from tossing the beanbag to the baseball in a couple of months."Meanwhile, the certain Yankee "phenom-to-be" is concentrating on the physical aspects of the game.Glad he is one of us and not one of them.
Not long ago, CC was returning, Brett Gardner was healing, Joba was throwing well, Arod was heating up, and our only problem was securing tickets for the upcoming midnight premier of "The Dark Knight Rises." We were fat, dumb and winning. The last thing anyone pondered was having to suddenly drain our farm system for a Shane Victorino or a Justin Upton, some outfielding...
From Kevin Kernan:The easy route would be to do nothing and hope the old guys, Raul Ibanez and Andruw Jones, continue to produce loud hits for the Yankees.
The Yankees, though, need to make a deal for an outfielder. Send a limo down the New Jersey Turnpike to pick up speedy Shane Victorino from the Phillies.
Victorino would put the Yankees that much closer to victory. The Athletics...
OAKLAND -- Former A's outfielder and one-time fan favorite Nick Swisher might not be so beloved in Oakland anymore. After his ninth-inning home run Thursday cut the Athletics' lead to one and extended the New York Yankees' streak of games with three or more runs to 43 -- the second-longest stretch in the live-ball era -- the boos rained down from an announced crowd...
Dim the mood lights. Cue the Moby soundtrack. Push the potato snug into the tailpipe, and let's get comfy. Nobody wants to hear us whinnying when nine eight seven games up. But today, all that stands between hope and a humiliating four-game sweep is Hiroki Kuroda, and we've rolled enough of his dice to not plan the victory party in advance. (Which is bad juju, BTW...
All baseball players wish they could make an immediate impact when joining the big league club for the first time. For some the game does pan out that way. For Adam Warren, his start was quite the opposite. Yet the 24-year-old’s mood was not dampened.
Why would anyone worry about such a thing? You'd be a fool to worry. The Yankees are too far ahead to blow the lead. And we have too many great players. There's no need to worry. None at all. And I'm not worried. Not one bit. I'm not even thinking about the fact that I'm not worried. It's not worth wasting time thinking about. So I'm not. Worried, that...
OAKLAND, Calif. -- When rookie starting pitcher Jarrod Parker walked off the mound after eight innings of one-run ball against the New York Yankees in line for no decision, Oakland A's third baseman Brandon Inge had a message for him. "Inge, he told me," Parker explained. "He said, 'I'm gonna get you one.' And he did. That's pretty sweet that...
A.J. Griffin glanced into the visiting dugout and saw Derek Jeter, Alex Rodriguez and Mark Teixeira among others. Oakland's rookie right-hander felt some nerves all right.
Then, Yoenis Cespedes hit a two-run homer in the first inning to give him a quick lead and Griffin shut down one of baseball's best lineups for five innings as the Athletics beat the Yankees 4-3 Thursday...
OAKLAND -- It wasn't a walk-off, but Brandon Inge's solo home run in the bottom of the eighth inning powered the Oakland A's to their third consecutive one-run victory over the New York Yankees, a 2-1 triumph Saturday. It pushed the A's MLB-best July record to 13-2. Yankees starting pitcher Phil Hughes was pulled from the game after 7 2/3 innings. He allowed four...
