Brett Gardner makes a outstretched catch during a game between the New York Yankees and Baltimore Orioles on April 24, 2011. (Photo credit: Wikipedia) With the new additions of Jacoby Ellsbury and Carlos Beltran to go along with Brett Gardner, Alfonso Soriano, Vernon Wells and Ichiro Suzuki, the New York Yankees have a plethora of outfielders. This leads many to presume that lead-off hitter Gardner is the odd-man out, as he is still under team control through this season and is considered one of the top five center fielders in the game today. Certainly, Gardner’s health does pose some concern, as he has spent a decent amount of time on the DL over his six career seasons. But no doubt when healthy, Gardner is an all around good player with a lot of the same tools as Ellsbury. As you can probably tell, I want Gardner to stay in New York but what is you opinion on the possibility of him being trading for starting pitcher, or second baseman? Brett Gardner Do you think the Yankees should...

Say Farewell to Joba Chamberlain, Now Signed with the Tigers

So, after the Yankees fans "had" to say goodbye to Phil Hughes, the same farewell can now be given to the disappointing Joba Chamberlain, who signed with the Detroit Tigers. The deal for one year and $2.5 million which is about one year and $2.5 million more than he would have gotten otherwise from the Yankees (especially if most Yankees fans had anything to say...

In case you ever wondered what an upstate New York whiteout looks like

This is Route 81 north of Syracuse tonight. I've said it many times: I've seen Baghdad during a war, and the New York State Thruway during a whiteout. Given the choice, I'd take my chances with the war.(Make your own jokes on how this photograph fits into the Yankees' future.)

Did the Yankees reject Reds’ trade offer of Brandon Phillips for Brett Gardner?

Earlier tonight, the New York Post broke the news that the Cincinatti Reds were interested in Yankees OF Brett Gardner. Now it looks like the Yankees have turned down a deal that would have shipped Gardner to the Reds and given them Golden Glove 2B Brandon Phillips. According to SB Nation’s Pinstripe Alley and Jon Heyman of CBS Sports, the talks at the Winter meetings between...

Yankees interested in Joaquin Benoit

getty images The New York Yankees reportedly have been considering Joaquin Benoit. Benoit, 36, could be used as either competition for David Robertson in the closers role or simply as a setup man. He posted a 2.01 ERA, 1.03 WHIP and racked up a 73/22 K/BB ratio in 67 innings of work for the Tigers in 2013 while notching 24 saves. The #Yankees would love to grab two relievers and...

Yankees GM Brian Cashman defends Robinson Cano’s decision to leave

Photo credit: AP Well this isn’t something  you hear every day. Yankees GM Brian Cashman, at the annual winter meetings, was asked about now former Yankee 2B Robinson Cano, who left the team for a massive deal with the Seattle Mariners. Usually when a player agrees to a monster deal to play elsewhere, there are at least some feelings of ill will between the player and their former...

The New York Yankees are fresh off only its second missed postseason in 19 years and much like in the winter headed into 2005, looking to play catch up with its arch rival Red Sox, who will enter the postseason as defending champions. They have already done great work to significantly upgrade the team. Bringing back Hiroki Kuroda insures at least three viable starters in the rotation...

Just so SOMEBODY says it: Nelson Mandela never set foot in this Yankee Stadium

Not trying to be a crab here. I'm fine with the Yankees saluting Nelson Mandela's 1990 visit to the great cathedral of baseball, the former Yankee Stadium, the House that Ruth Built, the park they razed. The new stadium is located in the Bronx and carries the same name. But Mickey, Babe, Thurman, Catfish, the Iron Horse, JFK, Pope John and President Mandela never set eyes...
