Zoilo Almonte and the future of right field in the Bronx
There is a lot to like about Zoilo Almonte. He has excellent tools, including solid speed, developing solid power, and very good arm. Zoilo has had an interesting pattern of moving through the minors since 2010.
I have followed him since the beginning of 2010, when he began to break out in a major way. Starting in Charleston, he got off to a slow start in 2010, but then caught...
Yankees like Pineda’s work ethic despite showing up overweight
Brian Cashman recently claimed that a potential reason for the loss of velocity in Michael Pineda‘s fastball could be that he didn’t workout at all during the offseason and showed up 20 pounds overweight.
However, since he has shown up in camp the Yankees seem to like his work ethic.
Here’s more from Joel Sherman of the NY Post:
Pineda showed up with 20 extra pounds...
Not Feeling the Pettitte Signing
I love Andy as much as the next guy. It's been an absolute pleasure watching him come up thru the system and becoming one of the faces of the franchise. In his prime, I felt nothing but confidence when Pettitte was on the mound.
That was then & this is now. This is the year 2012, he is turning 41 years old in June, and he has not pitched in the big leagues in over a...

In the article, translated from spanish, the president of the Mexican League’s Tigres de Quintana Roo said, ”If...
In the post-George Steinbrenner era, Yanks evolve
Even in the parking lot of their spring training complex, the changes around the New York Yankees since the death of George Steinbrenner are evident.
Power-washers that kept the area as clean as a hospital no longer are out at 8 a.m. every single morning at Steinbrenner Field in Tampa, Fla. Garbage cans are not emptied obsessively. Many workers report on time, not early.
Will the...
Yankees' Decision to Bring Back Andy Pettitte Could Open Doors for Even More Surprising Returns
The Yankees dropped a Bronx bombshell last week when they announced that they had talked Andy Pettitte out of retirement, signing the veteran left-hander to a minor-league deal. The 39-year-old is hoping to make his return to the Yankee Stadium mound by May, and if he's successful in his return, what's to stop the Yankees from continuing their efforts to further turn back the clock?
Girardi says no, no, no to 6-man rotation
Over the winter a reporter asked Yankees manager Joe Girardi if he would consider going with a six-man rotation this season and he said no. But that was back in the days where A.J. Burnett would have been one of the six men. Now that it is Andy Pettitte in the fold has Girardi changed his mind?
“I should not say never, but no, no, no,” Girardi told Bryan Hoch of MLB.com of...
Valentine Upset at Girardi for Ending Game in a Tie
From Mark Feinsand:Bobby Valentine thought he earned another inning of play against the Yankees when the suicide squeeze he called brought the game-tying run home in the ninth Thursday night.
Instead, he got a 4-4 tie, one that left the Red Sox manager puzzled.
“The umpire came over and said we couldn’t play,” Valentine said. “I don’t care about not playing. It...

Yankees 5, Rays 2
Phil Hughes allowed only three hits - one, a two-run homer by Matt Jocye - in five innings, and the New York Yankees beat the Tampa Bay Rays 5-2 Wednesday.
After walking Carlos Pena to lead off the bottom of the second inning, Joyce cranked a first-pitch cutter to dead center field for his third homer of the spring. But that was all the offense Tampa Bay could muster.
Hughes, who...
Freddy Garcia’s reaction to Pettitte’s return is worrisome
A lot of Yankees and their fans were thrilled last week when the news was broke that Andy Pettitte was returning to the Bronx this year. However, not everybody is thrilled. For one, some of the prospects on the farm can’t be too happy having another veteran blocking their progress. And then there is Freddy Garcia…
