Eduardo Nunez has been out for about two weeks after getting hit on the hand with a pitch, but he took BP and infield practice, declared himself ready, and then actually played in a game over the weekend (link).

It’s good timing for the Yankees because if he had another setback it very well could have put him in jeopardy of being ready to start the season.

Chad Jennings of the Journal News did a nice job with the rest of the injured Yankees in this roundup.

Derek Jeter (hamstring) is still expected to play Tuesday along with Nick Swisher (groin) and Russell Martin (hamstring). David Robertson threw a bullpen on Sunday and could be in a game within a week. Austin Romine (back) has finally been cleared for baseball activities. George Kontos (back) also pitched on Sunday.

That’s the good news. The not so good news is that Freddy Garcia (hand) won’t pitch until Friday at the earliest, Russell Branyan (back) is still not ready to play and neither is Manny Delcarmen (lat) although the latter threw a bullpen and is probably a week away.

Again, nothing terrible. Branyan and Delcarmen both had a chance to make the team out of spring training and have had their chances severely diminished because of their injuries. Garcia’s injury isn’t terrible, but it would be nice to get him back because nobody is going to trade for him if he’s not pitching.

New York Yankees: 10 crazy predictions you want to read

Is the 2012 season going to be CRAZY in the Bronx? Am I crazy? Yes, I am completely out of my mind. Is this realistic? In the words of Yankee skipper Joe Girardi, “I should not say never, but no, no, no.”   Still, even though not one of these 10 predictions will actually come true, there is nothing wrong with having a little fun in the midst of Spring Training. Please note…...

Scouts like what they saw out of Banuelos this spring

The Yankees top prospect Manny Banuelos was among the first cut from spring training last week, but it wasn’t for performance reasons if you believe a scout who talked to ESPN’s Kevin Goldstein. “I had not seen him since last spring, and he just looks strong and more poised,” a National League scout told Goldstein. “He’s 93-96 mph and showing three above-average pitches...

X-rays come back negative after Cano hit by pitch

Robinson Cano was hit on the left hand by a pitch on Sunday and left the game in a lot of pain. He was sent for x-rays after the game and luckily they came back negative, according to Mark Feinsand of the NY Daily News. Even though the x-rays are negative doesn’t mean Cano is out of the woods. He will be reevaluated on Tuesday, but could miss a few days. Eduardo Nunez similarly...

Some Yankees minor league notes

Yesterday was an off-day in the Yankees big league camp so Chad Jennings of the Journal News headed over to the minor league complex yesterday and gave us a solid update. Here are some of the highlights. Tyler Austin will play right field, not 1st or 3rd base like last year, for Staten Island this year. Mason Williams and Gary Sanchez are practicing with Tampa and J.R. Murphy...

Pettitte throws in bullpen, says arm feels great

Andy Pettitte says his arm feels great after throwing his first bullpen session with the New York Yankees since ending his brief retirement. The 39-year-old lefty threw 50 pitches to catcher Russell Martin, and even joked that he may be ready to pitch in the big leagues in three weeks. Pettitte says his target date is May 1. Pettitte arrived in camp Tuesday, took physicals and...

Alex Rodriguez disputes nearly $18,000 in credit card charges

One of the benefits about being a professional athlete in this day and age is that you pretty much can buy anything to your heart's content. However for New York Yankees star Alex Rodriguez, a purchase made for his niece has gotten him into some hot water. Rodriguez spent nearly $18,000 at Blue & Cream boutique on the Bower inn New York City for his niece Michelle...

Meredith Marakovits to replace Kim Jones on YES

I get the feeling that a lot of Yankees fans were similar to me. Not that we didn’t like Kim Jones, but it took a little while for her to grow on us and ultimately we were sad to see her leaving the YES Network this offseason. The Yankees didn’t waste a lot of time finding another hot chick to replace her though as they have replaced her with Meredith Marakovits of SNY, according...

It's tough to know just when to go: nice Newsday article on Andy Pettitte's return

As y'all are aware, Andy Pettitte is officially un-retiring today from the New York Yankees. I wrote about this just the other day, but I had to write again because there was a really thoughtful, well-written article in Newsday today by Mark Herrmann where a few ex-Yanks like Joe Girardi, Reggie Jackson, and Goose Gossage talk about the decision to keep playing or not, and how...

Michael Kay Reacts to Andy Pettitte’s Prodigal Return

*Special cap tip to the one and only Prince of New York, whose new book, Paul Lebowitz’s 2012 Baseball Guide, (a must-have for any serious baseball fan or fantasy baseball junkie) has just come out on Kindle. Don’t do any baseball drafts until you’ve read this tome. It’s a tradition I’ve come to love. Goes well with beer. Don’t hate me ‘cuz I’m right. Peace, Jeff...

Yankees didn’t have the budget for Mike Gonzalez

The Yankees were supposedly at budget before signing Andy Pettitte out of retirement last week. In fact, after signing Hiroki Kuroda there were rumors that they might not even have enough to sign both Eric Chavez and Raul Ibanez (obviously they did). So what happened in the case of Pettitte? They made an exception. As Brian Cashman put it, when a pitcher like Pettitte is available...
