https://twitter.com/AdamKilgoreWP/status/226723908819238912Ankiel has been pretty awful for most of the last 3+ seasons, but for a team that could use some OF help, he'd be a cheap (the rest of his $1.25M 2012 salary), low-risk option. A guy like Victorino would clearly be the better acquisition, and do much more to help the Yankees get #28. But if the Yankees want to take the cheap route, which they probably will, Ankiel might not be a bad pickup. I guess they could do worse.

  • I would like to see them get Upton from the DBacks, he still has a great up side and if he puts on Yankee Pinstripes I believe it will revive his career. After all there is talk that Swisher won't be back next year and I could see Andrew Jones walking into the sunset also. Justin would bring a good outfielder to the Yankess who is also still a young talent as well.
  • OK, so Ichiro was a nice sign, I'll take it.

Yankees Game 94 Lineup: 7/21/12

The Yankees look to right the ship and salvage the opportunity for a split with Oakland today as Phil Hughes takes the mound.  Dewayne Wise starts in right field as Nick Swisher rests after pulling up while running down the first base line.  Swisher injured his hip flexor and claims that the injury is not serious, and shouldn’t keep him out of the lineup long term. Derek Jeter...

Joba To Throw Again Today

From Mark Feinsand:Joba Chamberlain (elbow and ankle surgeries) is slated to throw Friday for the fourth time since starting his rehab assignment last week. Chamberlain, who threw a scoreless inning Tuesday for the Gulf Coast League Yankees in Tampa, has not allowed a hit or a walk in his four innings, striking out six. He has given up one unearned run. Girardi called the reports...

Bad News For Brett

From David Waldstein:Any slim hope the Yankees may have had that Brett Gardner would return from an elbow injury this season was almost certainly wiped out Thursday, when it was determined that he would have surgery. The Yankees announced that Gardner would have an arthroscopic procedure next week to remove inflamed tissue from his elbow. “It will most likely conclude his season...

New York Yankees Interested in Trading for Alex Gordon?

According to Nick Cafardo of the Boston Globe, the New York Yankees may be interested in trading with the Kansas City Royals to acquire Gold Glove left-fielder Alex Gordon. We keep mentioning him as possible trade bait for the Royals, who are trying to acquire more pitching after the Jonathan Sanchez misfire. With Brett Gardner having surgery, don’t dismiss possible interest...

Despite win, Nationals option Lannan to minors

The Washington Nationals optioned LHP John Lannan to Triple-A Syracuse despite registering a win against the Atlanta Braves on Saturday. Lannan was recalled for Saturday's doubleheader against the Braves and earned a win in the nightap. He allowed two earned runs, five hits, two walks and three strikeouts in seven innings. The Nationals leader with 10 wins last season, Lannan...

Kernan Makes The Case For Victorino

From Kevin Kernan:The easy route would be to do nothing and hope the old guys, Raul Ibanez and Andruw Jones, continue to produce loud hits for the Yankees. The Yankees, though, need to make a deal for an outfielder. Send a limo down the New Jersey Turnpike to pick up speedy Shane Victorino from the Phillies. Victorino would put the Yankees that much closer to victory. The Athletics...

No pressure, John...

And so, after the worst soul crushing loss in the brief history of the Washington Nationals on Friday night, followed by a lifeless loss in the first game of Saturday's doubleheader which cut the NL East lead over the Braves to a flimsy game and a half, the Nationals turn to John Lannan -- back in the fold for a day from his exile in Syracuse. Welcome back, John. Don'...

Add Denard Span to the list of outfielders the Yankees have checked on

From Jon Heyman:In their search for an outfielder with Brett Gardner likely out for the year, the Yankees "are in on everybody,'' says a rival executive. That means they've checked in on Shane Victorino, Justin Upton and Denard Span, and presumably others. But so far they have nothing going with any of those guys for a variety of reasons. Here's a rundown...

Lannan, Detwiler Fuel Series Split Against Braves

Things didn’t look all that good for the Washington Nationals half way through this four-game series against the Atlanta Braves. But a former Nats number one starter and the best number five pitcher in baseball had something to say about that. Friday night was a particularly hard loss for the Nats, as they had a nine-run lead through five innings, which they eventually blew in...

Trade Targets for the Nationals

The hot stove is heating up with the non-waiver trade deadline coming up on July 31st. Now seems like the right time to look at what players the Nationals could go after and what players Washington could offer in order to make a deal happen. Last month we talked about the limitations the Nats may face as the deadline approaches.  Now that we have seen Bryce Harper show that...

Guerrero throwing first pitch at A’s-Yankees game Sunday

Before he steps into the ring at the HP Pavilion in San Jose, California on July 28th to throw heat against number one contender Selcuk Aydin for the vacant WBC Interim Welterweight World Championship, Gilroy's Robert "The Ghost" Guerrero, a three-time world titleholder, will throw heat of another sort when he takes the mound at the Oakland Coliseum to throw out the...

A's 5, Yankees 4 (12)

OAKLAND, Calif. -- Once again the Oakland Athletics saved their best for last on Sunday. Tied 4-4 in the bottom of the 12th, catcher Derek Norris singled hard off the glove of Derek Jeter. Jemile Weeks sacrificed, advancing Norris to second base. And Coco Crisp singled to right, just over the leap of second baseman Robinson Cano for the 11th walk-off win for the A's as...
