The New York Yankees are not having a good off season to say the least. Ok they signed afew guys they wanted to sign, but none of those guys are that great to begin with. The Yanks thus far have signed catcher Russell Martin, relief pitcher Pedro Feliciano, pitcher Mark Prior, and pitcher Luis Vizcaino. None of those guys are exactly lighting the world on fire, but could be important cogs for the Yankees next season.

The Yankees have missed out on some really great players that could have helped them secure another World Series title next season. Yes, the offseason isn't even close to being over, but at this point the Yankees really have egg on their faces. Let's look at who they missed out on.
Zack Greinke- could have acquired him via trade, but the Brewers beat them to the punch. Perhaps anxiety issues would have prevented Greinke from being good in New York, but now we'll never know and now the Yanks are a pitcher or 2 short. Greinke had a down year last year, but he is a former Cy Young award winner and a better option than what they have right now.
Andy Pettitte- as of right now the Yankees are losing out on Andy the Dandy to the thought of retirement. The Yankees really need a 4th starter right now and he would be the perfect fit as he is the best non trade option out there right now. Although he was injured alot last season, he was very good when he was pitching and is a clutch performer.
Cliff Lee- the Yankees really missed the boat on this one, but it looked like Cliff didn't really want to play in New York and for some weird reason rather pitch in Philadelphia. Cliff would have been the Yanks #1 or #2 starter next season and would have been a huge help to stopping the Red Sox now power lineup.
Carl Crawford- a bigtime free agent signing by the Red Sox to get this speedster. While in the end I don't think he would have been a good fit for the Yankees, the fact that the Red Sox got him makes it even worse. If he went to the Angels, like everyone thought, it would have stung less, but anytime Boston picks up a big free agent Yankee fans cringe because the AL East is going to be that much harder to win.
Jayson Werth- while the Yankees weren't as interested in Werth as they were in Lee or others, it still still stings alil bit that they missed out on a big bopper who is also a clutch hitter. While no team, Nationals included, should have paid Werth the amount of money he got, the Yanks probably could have and not blinked an eye.
The Yanks also missed out on guys like Bill Hall, who could have been a great utility guy for them (signed by the Astros) as well as power hitter extraordinaire, Adam Dunn who would probably have hit 50 homers in Yankee stadium (signed with the White Sox). Also the Yankees are not going to get Felix Hernandez either because why in the world would the Seattle Mariners trade him.
The Yanks might have to settle for lesser pitching options in free agent Freddy Garcia or even trade with the Cleveland Indians to get Fausto Carmona. Either way Yankee fans need to hope the end of the rotation doesn't consist of a crappy Sergio Mitre and an inexperienced Ivan Nova.
The Yankees really really have dropped the ball thus far, this offseason. Let's just hope they can rebound and pick up some players to help them win the World Series next year because right now they aren't looking like they can win it all.
