Chris Dickerson (Photo credit: Wikipedia) What did I learn watching the New York Yankees over Labor Day Weekend? The GOOD: 1 – Robertson to Soriano combo are still consistently solid as set-up and closer. 2 – According to the NY Post, A-rod should be back today; ESPN reported that Southpaw Andy Pettitte threw a 35-pitch bullpen over the weekend and is on track to return shortly, as all things are looking good. Also, Curtis Granderson could return to line-up today according the NY Daily News. 3 – Chris Dickerson. 4 – Yankees squeaked out a 4-3 win on Saturday over the Orioles, so they stay two-games up in the division even though they still lost the series. 5 – The Yankees are no longer the oldest team in MLB. The new Yankees-West now holds that honor, aka the Los Angeles Dodgers, who are now sporting a team average of 30.9 years compared to the Bombers 30.8. The UGLY: 1 – Derek Lowe cannot be trusted. Taking sloppy seconds from the Tribe was never a good idea but Lowe has digressed ...

About Cano Costing The Yankees Yesterday's Game

Robinson Cano either has a sore left hip, terrible judgement, or a bad case of laziness. In that fateful 8th inning of yesterday's game against the Rays, it was crucial for Cano to keep Chris Gimenez's ground ball in the infield. The ball went past him and the game went past the Yankees, by a final score of 4-3. Going into today's action, the Yankee division lead was...

Right-hander Alex Cobb (8-8, 4.39 ERA) is on the mound for Tampa...

Robinson Cano and Curtis Granderson are back in the New York Yankees' starting lineup. Cano, who experienced tightness in his left hip during the eighth inning of Monday's 4-3 loss to Tampa Bay, was listed as the designated hitter. Granderson, who didn't start the previous two games due to right hamstring tightness, was the center fielder for Tuesday night's game...

Yankees Game 134: Seeing-Eye Single Sees AL East Lead Reduce

New York Yankees 3 — Tampa Bay Rays 4   A seeing-eye single brought in the go-ahead run in the 8th in today’s 4-3 loss to the Tampa Bay Rays.   Of the 7 innings in CC Sabathia’s start, he only had 1 perfect inning. Every inning but 1, at least 1 runner reached as he scattered 8 hits and 2 walks with 4 strikeouts as he pitched a relatively solid game for the Yankees. A trio...

Robinson Cano's foul ball knocks over John Sterling's microphone (Video)

New York Yankees second baseman Robinson Cano hit a foul ball into the Yankees radio broadcast booth that knocked over the microphone of Yankees play-by-play man John Sterling as he was calling Monday's game at Tropicana Field against the Tampa Bay Rays. It happened in the top of the fifth inning as Cano hit a 3-1 pitch foul behind home plate, and WCBS radio listeners could...

On the Yankees, Joba, and A-Rod

A few thoughts on the state of the Yankees before today's game at the House of Horrors, East Coast Edition -- aka Tropicana Field.Yes, yesterday wasn't Joe Girardi's finest hour -- obviously, he pulled Phil Hughes too late, even though everybody and their grandmother knew that Mark Reynolds was going to go deep against him. And why he pulled Chris Dickerson -- the Yanks...

Report: Alex Rodriguez Expected to Return Today

According to a report from the New York Daily News, The New York Yankees expect their All-Star third baseman, Alex Rodriguez to return to the lineup today against the Tampa Bay Rays. Rodriguez fractured a bone in his right hand back on July 24th in a game against the Seattle Mariners. The report indicated that Rodriguez had good workouts for Class-A Tampa over the weekend and all...

Deja Vu for the New York Yankees

Deja vu? Are the 2012 New York Yankees about to collapse like a disturbed avalanche? Remind you of everyone? Ahh, the 2011 Boston Red Sox come to mind. Will it happen again? One word: No. Yes, the Yankees are only 1 game ahead of the Baltimore Orioles after their 4-3 loss yesterday to the Tampa Bay Rays. No team has ever blown a double digit lead in the standings before and I still...

Curry: Cano Needs To Show More Effort

From Jack Curry:Cano is an excellent player, the best player on the Yankees. He has the sweetest swing on the team, a swing that he perfects in early afternoon sessions with hitting coach Kevin Long. He has the most dependable glove on the team, too, a second baseman who plays with panache and who has a powerful arm that makes other infielders envious. But Cano, for all of his...

Rays 5, Yankees 2

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - The New York Yankees had held sole possession of first place in the American League East for 84 consecutive days. Now they have to share. The Tampa Bay Rays used three home runs and a stalwart pitching effort from Alex Cobb on Tuesday at Tropicana Field to beat New York 5-2, allowing the Baltimore Orioles to climb into an AL East tie by routing the Blue Jays...

Roster Expansion Dilemma

The 40-Man Roster Expansion rules need to be adjusted before the start of the 2013 season.  From Opening Day through August 31st, a team is only permitted to use 25 of its 40 players in the Majors.  However, September 1st through the end of the regular season the entire 40-man roster is eligible to play for the club at the MLB level. New York Yankees Manager, Joe Girardi made it...

Yankees Call Up 6

With the rosters expanding today, the Yankees have called up six minor leaguers. Francisco Cervelli, Eduardo Nunez, Chris Dickerson, Adam Warren, Cory Wade, and Justin Thomas are all with the team today. To make room for Dickerson on the 40-man, Ramiro Pena was designated for assignment. I assume there will be more moves as the minor league season comes to a close.
