The Yankees have recalled third baseman David Adams from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre and placed third baseman Luis Cruz on the 15-day disabled list with a sprained right knee. Cruz was hurt while making a play Monday night. He has played 16 games for the Yankees this year after appearing in 45 for the Dodgers. He is hitting .145 overall this season, with 11 RBIs. Adams is hitting .190 in 35 games for New York this season, with two homers and nine RBIs. Third baseman Alex Rodriguez has missed the entire season while he recovers from hip surgery. The Yankees had planned to activate him by this week, but a quadriceps strain forced him back for further rehab. The star slugger is also under investigation by Major League Baseball for his reported ties to a clinic accused of distributing banned performance-enhancing drugs.

Jeter may not return to Yankees lineup Saturday

Derek Jeter is eligible to come off the disabled list Saturday but don’t look for him to be in the Yankees’ lineup against the Rays. Though Jeter has been making progress with his right quadriceps injury by doing more running and regularly taking batting practice and ground balls manager Joe Girardi said before Wednesday night’s 3-1 loss to the Rangers at the Rangers Ballpark...

Yankees game 102 lineup: 7/25/13

The Yankees will try to earn a split of a four game series with Texas this afternoon from Arlington. Hiroki Kuroda takes to the mound with hopes of sending New York back to the Bronx on a winning note. The team will head home for a very important weekend series with the Rays – a series that might see Derek Jeter and Alex Rodriguez return to action. Lefty Derek Holland is on the...

A-Rod saga multi-layered, multi-lawyered

If you had to bet, which would you say Alex Rodriguez stands a better chance of doing? Returning to form as a healthy player for the New York Yankees, or avoiding a monstrous suspension from baseball? On both fronts, A-Rod appears to be trailing by five runs with two outs in the bottom of the ninth. Really, the only question now is how each of his games will end. Is Rodriguez...

Source: Yanks plan A-Rod discipline

The New York Yankees intend to discipline Alex Rodriguez for seeking a second medical opinion on his injured leg without their permission, a person familiar with the team's deliberations said Thursday. The exact penalty had not yet been determined, the person said, speaking on condition of anonymity to The Associated Press because no statements were authorized. A fine appeared...

Doctor who gave 2nd opinion on A-Rod now part of Biogenesis investigation

With friends like these Alex Rodriguez doesn’t need enemies — probably just more lawyers. Rodriguez managed to open a new door for doping investigators Wednesday when he put forward a New Jersey doctor to contradict the Yankees’ diagnosis of his quad injury; the doctor orthopedist Michael Gross of Hackensack University Medical Center was reprimanded in February for “failing...

Alex Rodriguez could reportedly still face lifetime ban from baseball

It would be a shock at this point if New York Yankees slugger Alex Rodriguez was not suspended for his alleged involvement with Tony Bosch’s Biogenesis clinic. The suspension is expected to come sometime within the next few weeks, but MLB fans are still wondering how strong of a statement Bud Selig is looking to [...]

Preview: Yankees @ Rangers (7/24/13)

Andy Pettitte (7-7, 4.47 ERA) is on the mound in game three of the four in Arlington and takes on the new addition to the Rangers Matt Garza. The last seven starts have been frustrating for Pettitte, he has gone 2-4 with a 5.40 ERA, and opponents have hit .311 against him after a beautiful outing on June 8 at Seattle. Most troubling of all for Pettitte is that he feels completely...

Yankees 5, Rangers 4

Eduardo Nunez hit a tying triple, Brent Lillibridge followed with a go-ahead single and the New York Yankees rallied against All-Star closer Joe Nathan in the ninth inning Tuesday night for a 5-4 victory over the Texas Rangers. New York's comeback got started when Vernon Wells drew a one-out walk against Nathan (1-1) and scored on Nunez's triple to deep center. Nunez stumbled...

Baseball’s problem: A-Rod is still the sports biggest story

Source: Streeter Lecka/Getty Images North America It has to say something about an athlete, or maybe more so a sport, that even when he is not playing he remains the story. Alex Rodriguez has not played a single major league game this season and yet he is in more headlines then anyone. Rodriguez made headlines with his conditioning program, his tweet that he was cleared, and the...

Preview: Yankees @ Rangers (7/23/13)

Phil Hughes ( 4-8, 4.57 ERA) takes the ball in game two in Arlington against Alexi Ogando (4-2, 2.93 ERA). Hughes had a start of mixed results in his last outing, striking out a season high 10 batters but also allowing three homers in a loss to the Twins. He took a tough luck loss the last time he faced Texas on June 27, allowing two runs in eight innings. The right hander has a...

A-Rod vs. the Yankees is now the best comedy of the summer

For most of June and July, I've been trying to find a TV series to enjoy. I know — I should just watch more baseball. It's always the best TV of the summer. But a 30-minute-to-one-hour breather here and there helps clear the mind. It's a palate cleanser. At least for me.  Dexter and Under the Dome haven't really done it for me; I gave up on those shows after...

Report: Yankees Close to Bringing Back Alfonso Soriano

According to a report via George A. King III of the New York Post, the New York Yankees are close to reacquiring a former player in outfielder Alfonso Soriano, to help infuse a surge of power in their lineup. According to a person familiar with the talks, the Cubs will pay the bulk of what is left on Soriano’s contract. He makes $18 million this year and the same for next season...

Alex Rodriguez Doesn’t Trust The Yankees

Here we go again. Alex Rodriguez has come out of ‘hiding’ and his first stop was to WFAN where he was interviewed by Mike Francesa. Rodriguez called into the afternoon show to tell the world he’s ready and willing to play ASAP and that the only thing stopping him are the Yankees. Arod had a conference call with Yankees management  on Thursday, and they agreed to a plan...
