Except for a few glorious weeks in October of 2009, Damaso Marte‘s lastest stint with the Yankees has been an injury plagued disaster.
They traded one of their top prospects at the time in Jose Tabata for him in 2008 and then signed him to a three-year $12 million deal before the 2009 season. He proceeded to miss most of the 2009 and 2010 seasons before missing all of the 2011 season. If not for the great job he did against the Angels and Phillies, his time in the Bronx would have been a total loss.
Well it appears to finally be over as Mark Hale of the NY Post is reporting that the Yankees do not plan on exercising their $4 million team option to keep Marte in Pinstripes next year.
Marte will be 37-years-old next season so it is impossible to see a team giving him a guaranteed contract coming off major shoulder surgery. So this may be the end of his career.
