Found March 11, 2013 on Hall of Very Good:

For years, seemingly no one outside of Fulton County cared about Chipper Jones.  And now, you can't get online without seeing something related to the former Atlanta Braves superstar. Tuesday, the Georgia House of Representatives announced "Chipper Jones Day" in the state and on Friday, Jones himself hit Twitter and announced he'll be throwing out the first pitch for the Braves on Opening Day. Of course, throw in the news that in June the Braves are retiring his number and inducting him into the team's Hall of Fame and, wow...best week ever! Then today, well, comes this. That's right, gang, New York Yankees GM Brian Cashman is apparently going to call Jones' people to see if the 1999 National League MVP would be interested in donning the pinstripes.  "If Chipper Jones wants to come back, I'd love to have Chipper," Cashman told YES' Jack Curry. Okay.  Jones to the Yankees isn't likely, but that doesn't mean that the Bombers don't have another veteran up their sleeve to fill some of the holes in the lineup.  According to the USA Today, the Yankees are pursuing Derrek Lee to fill in for injured first baseman Mark Teixeira. The 37-year-old Lee hasn't played in the bigs since 2011.

Chipper Jones Says Hell No To The Yankees

CHIPPER TO YANKEES: Chop This! I was very glad to see Chipper Jones reject the Yankees’ overtures for a comeback. It’s not that I wouldn’t want to see Jones have a change of heart, but not with the Yankees … not with anybody else but the Braves. I’ve always admired players to begin and end it with the same team. That‘s what I want to see for David Wright. It’s one...

Chipper Jones ‘Flattered’ by Interest in Retirement, But Says He Prefers Being Bad Golfer

With a plethora of injuries to deal with, the veteran-laden Yankees are in dire straits before the season has even begun. Alex Rodriguez, Curtis Granderson and Mark Teixeira are all looking at weeks on the disabled list, and the New York depth is wearing thin. So, perhaps it shouldn’t have been much of a surprise that, with a traditionally quiet trade market during spring training...

Chipper Jones? Derrick Lee? The pain killers must be putting Brian Cashman into a new astral plane

Yesterday, the often-rancorous Yankiverse came together in one rare, unified consensus:Whatever pain-killers Brian Crashman is taking - Dude, I gotta get me some. What happened was this: The Yankees acknowledged the looming disaster that is otherwise known as Opening Day 2013 in a manner that a general manager who is undergoing middle-age life crisis while taking prescription hallucinogenics...

Chipper to Yanks: No Thanks

In the last few months, the New York Yankees have started to look more like "The Walking Dead" than the "Bronx Bombers".  And while I like the idea of a group of zombies taking the field, it's probably better to be fully healthy than hurt. Naturally, rumors began swirling around about who might be throwing on the pinstripes and joining the Yankees when...

Yankees Plan to Reach Out to Chipper Jones in Attempt to Lure Him Out of Retirement

Mark Teixeira‘s wrist injury has the Yankees scouring the retirement list for possible replacements. Brian Cashman told Jack Curry of YES that he intends to reach out to Chipper Jones‘ agent to lure the third baseman out of retirement. The Yankees have shown interest in bringing first baseman Derrek Lee out of retirement as well. Cashman also told Curry that New York has “investigated...

Yankees: Retired to rehired

This will be short but not so sweet. Yankees put age before beauty. Upon my daily trolling of the big newspapers sports sections, USA Today reported that the New York Yankees were trying to get Chipper Jones, Derrek Lee and Scott Rolen out of retirement to come play in the Bronx. In utter disbelief instead of reaching for my morning coffee, I knocked it over and it went everywhere...

Will strikeouts sink the Braves?

As you may have heard by now, the Atlanta Braves made a few changes over the winter.  With the new additions, the Braves lineup figures to be among the most powerful in baseball. But along with all that thunder, there will also be plenty of whiffs. In fact the Braves strikeout tally could be among the highest in the game. Here’s the key question, though… Does it matter? But...
