Via Joel Sherman of the NY Post:
On the subject of the bullpen, the Yankees were quietly excited about agreeing with Luis Vizcaino on a minor league contract. Vizcaino wore down in 2007 under heavy usage by Joe Torre as a Yankee and did not pitch at all in the majors last year as his arm continued to be problematic. But in Winter Ball the Yankees had the righty throwing consistently in the mid-90s and saw him as a viable candidate to force his way onto the big-league roster.
But late in the Winter Ball season, Vizcaino blew out his Achilles. He is now likely no to pitch this year. And, due to the injury, the Yankees got out of their deal with Vizcaino.
This doesn’t come as much of a surprise. Vizcaino was not expected to be much more than a mop-up man anyway so this isn’t really that big of a deal. But it happened so I wanted to let the BBD readers know.
That was a short lived Yankee comeback.
