Five Yankee prospects will participate in the 2012 Arizona Fall League for the Scottsdale Scorpions, the team affiliated with the Yankees and four other teams in the prestigious six-team league which features rosters full of top prospects. Opening day for the 2012 season will be in early October, and the usually runs until mid-November, when the two top teams will square off for the championship. I had penned an article for Examiner.com which gives a full breakdown of the five prospects who are headed off to Arizona.

For those who don’t care to read the article, the Yankees will be sending Zachary Nuding, Mark Montgomery, David Adams, Slade Heathcott, and Austin Romine to the Fall League. Romine topped out this year at Triple-A, while Slade Heathcott stayed in High-A Tampa. The other three players are all on the Trenton Thunder playoff roster.

Injury Updates: Tex, Pettitte, Nova

- To make that blown call on the final play of last night's game worse, Mark Teixeira re-injured his left calf and will likely miss Sunday's series finale against the O's. - In better news, Andy Pettitte threw a simulated game on Saturday and apparently everything went smoothly. Here's a little more on Pettitte from Dan Martin: “I felt good, it was a good day...

Mark Teixeira's Horrible Decision to Slide Into First Rewarded by Bad Karma From Baseball Gods (Video)

Mark Teixeira is 6-foot-3 and weighs 220 pounds. He's coming off of a calf injury. But still, with the game on the line and him needing to get to first base safely, Teixeira's choosing to slide into the bag Saturday night rather than run still ranks pretty high on the what-were-you-thinking meter. Teixeira had just hit a weak grounder that spelled doom for the Yankees, who...

Yankees Game 141 Lineup: 09/11/12

The Yankees will send Hiroki Kuroda to the mound tonight in game one of a three-game set against the Boston Red Sox (63-78). In his last outing against the Tampa Bay Rays, Kuroda lasted only six innings, allowing four runs on eight hits while striking out three for the win. Left-hander Jon Lester (9-11, 4.99 ERA) is on the mound for the Red Sox. Never Forget. New York Yankees (79...

Win shows Chamberlain is back on right track

Joba Chamberlain's return from the disabled list didn't start out very well, as the reliever posted a 10.57 ERA over his first nine appearances, allowing runs in all but three of them. However, Chamberlain seems to be getting his legs underneath him, giving the New York Yankees a potential weapon in the late innings down the stretch. Chamberlain entered Sunday's game...

Mark Teixeira to Miss Red Sox Series, Likely Rest of Regular Season With Calf Strain

NEW YORK -- Yankees first baseman Mark Teixeira is expected to be sidelined for 10 days to two weeks, missing most of the rest of the regular season. Teixeira returned to the lineup Saturday in Baltimore, his first appearance since Aug. 27, and reinjured his calf on the final play of the game when diving into first base. While he appeared to beat the ball and avoid a game-ending...

Granderson hopes three-hit game marks end of slump

Curtis Granderson has struggled badly through the second half, but the New York Yankees are hoping his big day Sunday will help spark his bat down the stretch. Granderson didn't start against the Baltimore Orioles in the series finale, but he hit a home run as a pinch hitter in the sixth inning, then had a pair of two-run hits to finish his day with three hits and five RBI...

Yankees Game 141: Ellsbury walks off

New York Yankees 3 — Boston Red Sox 4   Inabilities to hold leads and missing the “big hits” hurt when Jacoby Ellsbury walks off for a 4-3 loss to the Boston Red Sox.   Hiroki Kuroda generally has pitched with minimal run support and tonight was about the same again. Tonight, Kuroda gave the Yankees 6.1 innings but what he didn’t do was hold the lead he received. He received...

Mark Teixeira Ripped The Umps After A Blown Call In Last Night’s Loss To The Orioles

Yankees first baseman Mark Teixeira wasn’t exactly happy with the umpires in last night’s loss to the Orioles. First base umpire Jerry Meals blew a call by calling Teixeria out even though he was clearly safe. That out ended the game and left the tying run at third base. Because of the loss, the Orioles are once again tied with the Yanks in the AL East. Teixeira had this to...

Granderson comes off the bench to help Yankees beat Orioles

BALTIMORE-Curtis Granderson made good use of his time on Sunday against the Orioles. Granderson came off the bench to deliver a pinch-hit homer and five RBIs, and Derek Jeter added a two-run homer to help the New York Yankees regain first place in the American League East with a 13-3 victory over the Baltimore Orioles Sunday afternoon. New York (79-61) split the key four-game series...

Yankees 13, Orioles 3

Slumping Curtis Granderson came off the bench to hit his 35th homer and drive in five runs, and the New York Yankees beat the Baltimore Orioles 13-3 Sunday to regain sole possession of first place in the AL East and earn an important split of the season series. Derek Jeter also homered for the Yankees, who lead the Orioles by one game with 22 left. Each team won twice in a four...

Yankees-Red Sox Preview

The New York Yankees likely expected a tight race in the AL East, but the Boston Red Sox are surprisingly not one of their challengers. The Yankees will try to maintain sole possession of first place during a three-game series with their sputtering archrivals beginning Tuesday night at Fenway Park. New York (79-61) moved one game ahead of Baltimore with a 13-3 rout at Camden Yards...
