Cust averaged 28 home runs from 2007-09 and was looking to re-establish his offense with the Astros and prior to that the Phillies and Mariners but has been unsuccessful. Report: Yankees sign OF Cust

The New York Yankees signed outfielder Jack Cust to a minor league contract Wednesday, according to Sweeny Murti of WFAN.Cust was released by the Houston Astros on Tuesday after he had only a single hit in 25 spring training at-bats. The 33-year-old batted .213 with three home runs and 23 RBIs in 67 games for the Seattle Mariners last season.

Duke and Cust were worth a look for Astros

The Astros released outfielder Jack Cust and pitcher Zach Duke early Tuesday. It should have come as no surprise. Neither had performed at all as expected during the spring. Since both had to win spots on the roster with nothing guaranteed, their failures spelled their doom. Cust and Duke had once been promising players. Playing ten years mostly in the American League, Cust'...

Yanks might have really blown it with trade for Pineda

There was a divide with New York Yankees fans earlier in the year when it was announced that stud hitting prospect Jesus Montero was being traded to the Mariners for Michael Pineda. While Pineda was 5th in the Rookie of the Year voting in 2011, his end of the season was less than stellar, while the call up of Montero went swimmingly well. He showed Yankee fans his quick bat speed...

Yanks Sign Jack Cust

Clearly the Yankees are a little concerned with Ibanez's struggles and bat speed and felt the need to pick up a little insurance at the DH spot. It's another quality trash-heap signing by Cashman. Cust hit just .213/.344/.329 with 3 HR and 23 RBI in 225 at-bats for Seattle, but in 2010 he did have one of hit better overall offensive seasons. That season year he hit .272...

Pettitte pitches BP, now ready for spring game

TAMPA The Tampa Bay Rays have reason to feel optimistic about a rotation that now features a pair of heat-throwing lefthanders in David Price and Matt Moore. But dont look now here come the New York Yankees, with their own matching set of stellar southpaws: All-Star ace CC Sabathia and newly unretired Andy Pettitte. Pettittes surprise return to the game, following a year away...

Yankees Finding New Ways to Kill Young Pitching

So reports indicated that Michael Pineda is pitching for a rotation spot today. What I thought was a silly media meme to make it through the demands of spring training news content has become a reality. Apparently the velocity concerns of the media are also shared by the Yankees. Despite the wicked slider and changeup, the 89-93 mph fastball is concerning the brass. I always hate...

Blame Canada For This Great Deal On An International Russell Martin Jersey.

I came across a poorly listed Russ Martin relic on eBay, and I'm happy I took the time to read the item description. Had I not, I would have almost certainly missed out on my newest Russ hit, a great addition to my Martin Collection. This sweet red swatch is the black refractor parallel /25, and my copy is numbered 23/25. It was had for a measly 99 cents plus shipping, and has...

Andy Pettitte could face Mets in spring finale

Andy Pettitte's road to a comeback has, so far, hit no potholes and— after throwing  another short bullpen session Thursday— is in preparation to throw a simulated game this Sunday. The New York Yankee pitcher's return is still a work in progress but,  depending on how his body feels next week, the lefthander could make his comeback debut in the spring season finale against...
