New York Yankees 3 — Tampa Bay Rays 1
Ivan Nova pitched four scoreless in today’s 3-1 win over the Tampa Bay Rays.
Francisco Cervelli started the Yankees only big rally in a three-run 8th inning. He started the inning with a single and was pinch-run for. The pinch-runner, Walter Ibarra, would go on to score the first run of the game on an error by the Rays shortstop Hak-Ju Lee. Catcher Bobby Wilson would bring in two more on a single to left to be all the offense for the Yankees.
Ivan Nova started today’s game and pitched four scoreless innings with some assistance. Catcher Francisco Cervelli is competing for the starting job of opening day and if defense wins it, Cervelli made a great impression. In the 1st inning, Cervelli backed up Nunez’s throwing error by throwing out the runner stealing 2nd base. Then, with runners on the corners and one out, Cervelli threw out the runner stealing 2nd base and helped Nova out of his jam.

New York Yankees captain Derek Jeter thought it was a terrible idea for his club to call up retired Atlanta Braves star Chipper Jones, which he thought was a media-created joke. "Y'all just come up
How does a boy who used a milk carton as a glove become the best relief pitcher in the history of baseball? How does a young man undergo Tommy John surgery while in the minor leagues and get better? How does a man get through 19 seasons with just one pitch? Mariano Rivera answers all these questions. The Yankees stumbled upon Rivera by accident. The pitcher for Rivera’s team was...
Ivan Nova continued to make a case to be the New York Yankees' fifth starter by pitching four scoreless innings Tuesday during a 3-1 victory over the Tampa Bay Rays.
Nova allowed four hits, walked none and struck out two in his third exhibition start. The right-hander who faltered down the stretch last season has allowed one run over nine innings this spring.
The Yankees scored...
Derek Jeter, Mariano Rivera and Andy Pettitte will all appear in a game together for the first time this spring, as the Yankees will take on the Phillies tonight in Tampa.
Jeter will return to shortstop exactly five months to the day he broke his ankle and will have no limitations whatsoever. Rivera will appear in his second game this spring after throwing a 1-2-3 inning on Saturday...
Derek Jeter, Mariano Rivera, and Andy Pettitte all played together for the first time this 2013 Grapefruit League tonight in Tampa against the Philadelphia Phillies. Collectively, they are 3 of the “Core 4″ New York Yankees heavily responsible for five World Series title since they came onto the scene in the mid-1990′s. All are 38 years old or older, all are coming off...
The Yankees don’t have many viable options to fill in for Mark Teixeira as he recovers from a strained tendon in his right wrist, so they’re turning to a player who has been retired since 2011.
The Yankees are in talks to bring Derrek Lee out of retirement, according to the New York Times. The 37-year-old was last seen playing for Pittsburgh and Baltimore two years ago.
I can’t recall when last the New York Yankees were this desperate.
Yankees general manager Brian Cashman, has put it out there that he would love to sign the recently retired Atlanta Braves great Chipper Jones. The Yankees have been blitzed by injuries to some of their best players and are interested in bringing in a few veterans to fill the holes in their lineup. Cashman even...
AL BEast Notebook – March 13
Derek Jeter made his Spring debut in the field Wednesday, leading off and playing his usual shortstop position after DHing a couple games.
He had just one fielding opportunity, picking up a ground ball and tossing to second for the out in the fourth inning. He went 0-2 with a walk. Jeter is 1-6 batting in his three preseason starts.
Jeter broke his...
We learned yesterday that the Miami New Times will not be handing its Biogenesis files over to Major League Baseball after all. I am guessing this means that MLB won't have enough evidence to prove that Alex Rodriguez and others purchased PEDs. If that is the case, look for A-Rod to finally break the silence he has imposed on us all since this story broke. So what will he say...
The New York Yankees have turned to the free agent market in
their search for a corner infielder to help replace injured regulars Alex
Rodriguez and Mark Teixeira. The team has reached out to free agent first
baseman Derrek Lee and third baseman Scott Rolen, while it’s even contacted the
agent of former Atlanta Braves All-Star Chipper Jones.
General manager Brian...
Since the announcement that New York Yankees closer Mariano Rivera will be walking away from baseball at the end of the 2013 season many (analyst, writers, etc) have been speculating where the long-time closer fits within the greatest players of all-time list. I could debate you all day regarding my opinion on where Rivera fits on that list, but it's evident that some Red Sox...
Prime time Spring Training exhibition found the Phillies playing one of the sloppiest games I've seen form a defense that already has it's fair share of question marks. They managed to commit five errors as a whole, two in the same at bat. Andy Pettitte, Mariano Rivera, and the Yankees...
