It wasn’t the first time they have expressed interest in the Yankees outfielder, but the Nationals once again asked about outfielder Brett Gardner, whom they view as a perfect leadoff/center field candidate. However, according to MASN, the Yankees have once again turned them down. The Yankees like Gardner and while they would presumably listen to offers for him it isn’t likely that they are going to deal him. Maybe if the Nationals were willing to discuss Stephen Strasburg or Jordan Zimmermann the two sides could put something together, but that isn’t happening. Other than those two guys, the Nationals just don’t have the pitchers the Yankees are interested in. Rumor: Yankees Willing to Eat Cash to Deal Burnett

They may be looking to add starting pitchers this offseason, but the Yankees are trying to subtract at least one – A.J. Burnett – and are even willing to eat up to $8 million to make him more attractive, according to George King of the NY Post. Unfortunately it doesn’t appear that teams are interested in Burnett even as the Yankees take a bite out of the $33 million...

Yankees Contacted the Mets About Niese

Upon first hearing about Niese's availability, I was cautiously optimistic that the Yankees would, at the very least, inquire about the young lefty. While Niese may not offer the upside of Gio Gonzalez or the experience of John Danks, I believe that he is not too far removed from either, and is quite likely to come at the most reasonable cost. For those of you unfamiliar with...

Rumor: Yankees clear front runner to land Cespedes

Perhaps their interest is real… The Yankees have been linked to free agent Cuban outfielder Yoenis Cespedes since the day we first heard about him and now Frankie Piliere of Fox Sports has reported that they may be clear front runners in landing him. There is some thinking that with the new collective bargaining agreement that will limit spending on international free agents...

Rumor: Yankees win rights to negotiate with Hiroyuki Nakajima

First, hello friends. Second, the New York Yankees have won the right to negotiate with Japanese shortstop Hiroyuki Nakajima. The 29-year-old hit .313/.389/.491 in four years in Japan and was posted this offseason. He would most likely add some middle infield utility depth behind Eduardo Nunez. He wasn’t the biggest name on the international market. I wouldn’t want...

This Past Week’s Quality Quotes from the World of Sports

Has anyone seen this photo of Brian Cashman repelling down the side of the building? If you’re a Yankees fan you’re used to seeing nerdy Cashman with a microphone in his face. This may actually mean that Cashman is cooler than we originally thought! This is probably one of my favorite weekly posts. Athletes and Management in pro sports never cease to amaze me with their...

Cashman content to remain quiet in Dallas

It may seem like some sort of bizarro baseball universe to watch the Yankees sitting on the sidelines while the Marlins chase all the splashy moves, but the developments aren't shocking to Brian Cashman.

Goodbye A.J.?

Could this be the end of the A.J. Burnett saga? Numerous sources have reported that Brian Cashman and the Yankees would consider finally shipping off Burnett, even offering to pay $8 million of the $33 million remaining on the final two seasons of his contract. Burnett does have a limited trade clause making the teams interested in him vary.If Burnett goes, this will open a spot...
