Replacement Level Yankees:
NEW YORK—The last time the Yankees had gone this deep into a season winless against the Red Sox, their name was the Highlanders and they played home games at Hilltop Park. There was no interest in continuing that particular history lesson.
Melky Cabrera, Hideki Matsui and Jorge Posada each drove in three runs and the Bombers pounded veteran John Smoltz as the Yankees finally posted a victory over their classic rivals, defeating the Red Sox, 13-6, on Thursday at Yankee Stadium.
It wasn’t pretty, but the Yankees finally got that 0 for vs. Boston off their back.
The Yankees announced that they acquired Chad Gaudin during the game. He’s not having a good year, but then again neither is Sergio Mitre.
