Found July 10, 2013 on The Victory Formation:
The name on everyone’s lips right now is Los Angeles Dodgers outfielder Yaisel Puig. He has put together one of the greatest starts we’ve ever seen to a career, at least in his first month and half of action. He’s tapered off a bit now that there is some extra scouting of him facing Major League pitching, but one thing we cannot take away from him is his amazing hustle. Or cluelessness. He’s already smashed into the right field wall at Dodger Stadium when making a catch, and his baserunning isn’t much better. Last night, during the Dodgers 6-1 victory over the Diamondbacks, Puig attempted to plate himself for some unknown reason and he was dead to rights. This was just stupid baserunning by Puig. The cutoff man already had the ball in shallow centerfield, essentially ending the play. The third base coach certainly wasn’t sending him. It wasn’t great hustle, it was a dumb baseball play. I also liked Miguel Montero wagging his finger at the end. He should have. Dikembe Mutombo may be seeking royalties, though. Bryce Harper was criticized earlier in the year for his ‘hustle’ by many fans and those in baseball media when he crashed into the wall at Dodger Stadium, leaving him with a cut and what wasn’t officially reported as a concussion. He said [...]

Dodgers have released the best/worst Yasiel Puig All-Star plug ever

The Dodgers want Yasiel Puig to be an All-Star. Yasiel Puig wants Yasiel Puig to be an All-Star. They are both desperate. This is the only reason I can think of that this plug happened. Regardless, I’ve never been more grateful for whatever string of awesome/terrible decision making led to this. 1) Puig can talk to animals. 2) Puig can do … things blindfolded. 3) Puig can...

That Didn’t Take Long: Everybody Hates Yasiel Puig

The Arizona Diamondbacks and Los Angeles Dodgers don’t like each other. Most of the ill-will stems from the Ian Kennedy-Zack Greinke Beanfest back in June.  Now, the D’backs are starting to turn their attention to the mercurial Yasiel Puig. Diamondback Catcher Miguel Montero had some choice words for the reckless Puig. From MLB.com: “If he’s my teammate, I probably try to...

Freddie Freeman Wins All-Star Game Final Vote Over Yasiel Puig

The fans have spoken. Freddie Freeman of the Braves and Steve Delebar of the Blue Jays were the winners of the All Star Game final vote. Freeman vs Puigmania was an epic battle to the end, with the Freeman devotees coming out the victors. Puig being a possible player in this year’s All Star games captured the criticism of many in the baseball world. With just a month under his...

Is ESPN stumping too hard for Yasiel Puig?

With the MLB All-Star Game Final Vote campaign currently clogging your Twitter feeds today, one theme has been popping up surrounding the National League voting this week: is ESPN pushing Yasiel Puig a little too hard to win the vote? If you simply looked at ESPN's Twitter, you wouldn't get that impression. One tweet about Puig has come out since the Final Vote began...

While You All Try To Vilify Yasiel Puig, I’ll Be Over Here Enjoying The Swag

On Wednesday night, the three amigos joined together on #theUCshow to discuss the latest and greatest that’s happening (and not happening) in the sports world. One point in particular riled up our own Justin Tinsley, as MLB has decided to suspend many of their players for a multitude of games for violating their performance enhancing [...]The post While You All Try To Vilify Yasiel...

Yasiel Puig’s interpreter got in trouble trying to get him woman’s phone number

Yasiel Puig has captivated baseball since making his major league debut on June 3. He went 2-for-4 in his debut and threw out a runner to end the game, clubbed two home runs the next game, and had four home runs and 10 RBIs in his first five games with the Los Angeles Dodgers. Though [...]

'Arrogant' Puig to sign with Jay-Z?

If you think Yasiel Puig is arrogant now, just wait until he signs with Jay-Z. The LA Dodgers phenom, who in little more than a month has become the biggest thing in baseball, spent Monday and Tuesday catching the ire of several Arizona Diamondbacks, who ripped him to the media . But by the time he took the field Wednesday, a Yahoo Sports report surfaced claiming that Jay-Z'...

Why Bryce Harper was born to win the Homerun Derby

As someone who has covered the Washington Nationals from the moment they moved to D.C. in 2005 I can tell you watching and talking to Bryce Harper is a treat. He is a bright respectful young man who loves the bright lights of being in the Major Leagues. One of the best things about covering Harper is watching him take batting practice. Fans, teammates and players from the opposing...

It's a good thing Puig didn't make it

Despite my initial support for Yasiel Puig, I’ve come to believe that him not making the All-Star team is a good thing.

Miguel Montero gives Yasiel Puig finger wag after collision (Video)

Your browser does not support iframes. Yasiel Puig made a rookie mistake on Tuesday, and Miguel Montero taught the youngster a lesson. Puig ignored his third base coach when he tried to score from first on a fly ball to center by Adrian Gonzalez in the top of the 5th of the Los Angeles Dodgers’ [...]

Yasiel Puig, the Non-All-Star

I don’t often write these sort of unfocused think-pieces. (Well, I happen to think that I don’t, but many of my commenters undoubtedly disagree.) Anyway, I’m thinking about Yasiel Puig today. After an impressive, intensely hyped first month, the Dodger wunderkind lost to Freddie Freeman in the fans’ vote for the All-Star Game. (Of course, with injury replacements and so on...

Nats Drop Disappointing Finale, Series To Phillies

Both teams were playing like they didn’t much care for winning. But in a game full of bloopers on Thursday night, the Washington Nationals (47-45) ultimately fell victim to the Philadelphia Phillies (46-47), losing the game and the series 3-1. The Nationals didn’t take advantage of their many potential paths to victory – failing to capitalize on four Phillies errors or...
