Has Boston media been too harsh on Bobby Valentine? Valentine believes that he's the best man for the job, and can see himself managing the Red Sox in 2013 in beyond. But he may be sadly mistaken.

CSNNE: Has the media been so harsh on Bobby V?

My God. Is this even a serious question? Yes! YES. No matter what manager was coming in to this, they had a brutal backlash to deal with and since Bobby V was handpicked by Lucchino, well to borrow a quote Matt Perrault from ESPN 900 in New Hamspshire, Bobby was bringing a butter knife to a shotgun fight.

The media has been out of this world crazy regarding anything Bobby V. From the Spring Training where they were doing all the drills, to the Youk comments, to Pedroia's comments, to the Beckett drama...  all of it has made this season even more unbearable. This team was floating at the .500 mark but with what was being talked about, you would think that team had the worst record in the league. 

The latest kerfluffle involved Rich from 98.5 The Sports Hub asking Valentine a question in the pre game press conference, the one that's in the video. Watch it, did it seem awkward or controversial at all? No! But today has been nothing but the audacity of asking that as Rich is someone who doesn't follow the team.

Seriously?! 

This is an issue? It isn't about the answer but the question itself? Valentine handled that pretty well with his usual humor but now since there's nothing else to talk about, we're going to debate whether or not Rich was the right person to ask the question? Give me a break. This has blown up into something ugly. Maybe David Ortiz was right. The media is turning this place into the ******** is used to be.

It's a damn shame because there are some great beat writers that follow this team but are overshadowed by the mainstream people. 

 

(Oh and to reiterate something I wrote a couple weeks ago: Bobby is the best guy for the job. Look for another candidate that isn't contractually obligated and is just a dream of the front office like Farrell or Scocsia. Not much out there to pick from and if they are so desperate to get Farrell, why not just wait out next year with Valentine instead of paying two managers for 2013?)
