“I’m retiring,” he said. “I just don’t want to make it a song and dance because I don’t think that’s necessary, but if someone needs something official, yeah, I’m going to retire. This is going to be my last year.”
“I do think I can platoon somewhere, but I don’t really enjoy it,” he said. “I can do it, but not after playing every day for 11 years and three years in the minor leagues and my whole life. I’m not willing to make that transition, not when the trade-off is all that time with my family. It’s not worth it.”
A big thanks to Mike Lowell. He arrived in Boston with little expectations and cranked out 1 great season (2007 - .324, 21 HRs, 120 RBI and the World Series MVP), 1 very good season (2006 - .284, 20 HR, 80 RBI), and 2 decent seasons (2008, 2009).
As for last night's game vs Oakland - another torturous loss. Is anyone still watching the Red Sox? I'm pretty sure the 6 guys who write for this blog have bailed on this team. I mean, why subject yourself to this punishment?
