Every morning, we compile the links of the day and dump them here... highlighting the big storyline. Because there's nothing quite as satisfying as a good morning dump.

The personal accolades continue to mount. David Ortiz [stats] is a postseason icon. He leads all designated hitters in pretty much everything. He’s one of the greatest players in Red Sox [team stats] history. Yesterday he added his landmark 400th career home run, and now the question we must ask is this: Is he a Hall of Famer?

From this vantage point, the answer is yes. Ortiz long has been a player whose impact transcends numbers — we call him Big Papi for a reason — and now the lifetime totals are piling up to support his case, too.

No. 400 was a vintage shot in yesterday’s 3-2 loss to the A’s, a missile with a monster follow-through off of A’s starter A.J. Griffin, who practically got whiplash watching it leave the park.

“It was awesome,” right fielder Cody Ross said. “It seems like every pitch he’s got that chance to do it. As soon as it went in the air, it was just a sigh of relief, for him especially, to get that weight off his shoulders. I’m just so happy for him and proud of him. It’s a huge accomplishment.

Herald: Ortiz building Hall of a resume

While David Ortiz is frustrated with everyone else getting long term deals from the Sox (and rightfully so), he continues to mash the ball and in the midst of a late career dominance that could make this decision easier.

At 36, he's on pace to have one of his best overall seasons since 2005 when he finished second in MVP voting: .302/44/110 and 48 doubles. What makes it more impressive is that he's doing this with everyone around him either struggling, hurt, or not even on the team. If the Sox are able to make it to the playoffs and he is anywhere near those stats, it will be amazing to see how many writers give the "he doesn't play defense" excuse as they vote for Jose Bautista.

It's been almost 40 years since the AL put the rule in effect yet they treat DH's like they don't deserve any accolades. It's what screwed Ortiz out of an MVP in 2006, what has screwed Edgar Martinez from his rightful spot in the Hall of Fame and why it'll be a long time before Ortiz has a plaque right next to Edgar. It's just a matter of time.

But for now, let's just watch Papi carry the Sox playoff hopes on his back.
