Every morning, we compile the links of the day and dump them here... highlighting the big storyline. Because there's nothing quite as satisfying as a good morning dump. In his third Grapefruit League start, Clay Buchholz went four scoreless innings against a Blue Jays lineup that included Jose Bautista batting third and playing right field. Buchholz gave up three hits with no walks and a strikeout. He faced 14 batters, two over the minimum, and got eight groundball outs, including a double play to end the third with runners on first and second. “Better tempo once again, consistent with his last outing,” said manager John Farrell. “I think any time we see Clay putting the ball on the ground, he’s got a sinker, he’s got his late action pitches working down in the zone,” Farrell said. “And that was the case again today. Key double play ball for him. And I think as we’ve seen his evolution as a starting pitcher, as he’s gone to that two-seamer, it really puts him in a good position to not only be efficient but when he needs to, get a groundball double play as the case was today.” CSNNE: Buchholz's strong spring continues Buchholz hasn't allowed a run yet in 8 1/3 innings thus far and he continues to looks good every time he's out there. It's a little surprising that he's looked sharp but he knows he could ill afford having another Spring similar to last season, when he gave up 5 home runs in 20 innings, which also led to the worst pitching of his career last April. Is the guy we saw back in 2010 making his highly anticipated return?! What remains to be seen with Buchholz is if he can even get back to that level of pitching. For someone that has been around the team as long as he has, there's still so many questions that surround him. Can he be the ace of this staff? Can he be effective on a consistent level? Can he stay healthy over the course of the season?   It feels like he's still a prospect, just without much hype around him like Jackie Bradley or Allen Webster have right now. It's a shame too because the way he's pitching now, he could very well be the talk of the town once again when the regular season starts.
