Every morning, we compile the links of the day and dump them here... highlighting the big storyline. Because there's nothing quite as satisfying as a good morning dump. Jonny Gomes gets a lot of praise for being a "good clubhouse guy." But after Wednesday night's pinch-hit walk-off home run at Fenway Park in a 2-1 win over the San Diego Padres, Gomes should probably be getting praise for his clutch-hitting ability. With the game tied at 1-1 in the bottom of the ninth, Gomes pinch hit for Brandon Snyder to lead off the inning. He would face right-handed reliever Luke Gregerson, who Gomes already had a history with, in a pinch-hitting situation.Gomes hit a pinch-hit, two-run homer off Gregerson last June, to help his Oakland Athletics snap a 4-4 tie and help them to a 6-4 win over San Diego.A year later with the Red Sox, Gomes -- the pinch-hitter -- made Gregerson pay once again, ripping a 2-2 slider into the monster seats for the walk-off win. CSNNE: Gomes more than just a clubhouse guy With all due respect to Johnny Boychuk, last night Gomes launched another Johnny Rocket over the Monster! When the Sox signed Johnny Gomes, I was one of the folks that laughed at how many times the phrase "clubhouse guy" came up. That the Sox were looking just for good character guys to fill the roster in order to appease the angry fans and that 2013 was going to be spent watching this team continue to be inconsistent.  Yet last night, Johnny Gomes' homer helped the Sox get their American League best 52nd win and are 3.5 games ahead of the Orioles in the AL East. Eight of those are in the walkoff fashion. This season continues to be refreshing and awesome.  Happy Fourth of July everybody!
