Every morning, we compile the links of the day and dump them here... highlighting the big storyline. Because there's nothing quite as satisfying as a good morning dump.
Did that really happen? Despite being at the Cask N Flagon for the game and helping people crowd surf outside afterwards, it hasn't really set in that the Red Sox have actually won the World Series at Fenway.
Do you remember the talk six months ago? The concern that we overpayed Victorino, gave the 38 year old David Ortiz a two-year deal, and not trading Jon Lester while he had some value left was all that was talked about. The questions that people had over signing Jonny Gomes and Koji Uehara. People were wondering when the "next great Sox team" were going to take the field.
Little did we know then that the next great Sox team was staring them right in the face.
First they won us back. While it certainly helped to have one of the best players in the franchise drop the most heart warming F-bomb in history, they played with a certain type of grit. Their personalities started to peek through and we took notice that this group of guys are actually a team.
Even after leading the division for so long, the doubts still grew. That this team didn't have enough pitching. That there is no way they can keep this pace in the AL East.
Then in the middle of August, they made a tight race into a laughing stock. While there was some concern over repeating recent history, this was different. This was a cohesive unit that could win games in many different ways. A team that we could fall back on.
And once the playoffs started the Sox continued to find ways to win: miraculous grand slams, absurd pitching duels, and a walk off pickoff. While other teams were formidable opponents, they were merely obstructing the way for what the Sox were determined to have.
Now it's finally started to set in. Cue those Duck Boats.
