Every morning, we compile the links of the day and dump them here... highlighting the big storyline. Because there's nothing quite as satisfying as a good morning dump. Whether it was to avoid facing an American League East rival or – as John Lackey joked – to avoid a road trip, the right-hander faced the Rays’ Triple-A edition at the Red Sox spring training complex while the major league teams played in Port Charlotte. “I pulled my 10-year card,”  Lackey said, with a laugh, of invoking his veteran’s privilege of staying off the road. Lackey went five innings against the Durham Bulls, giving up one run on four hits and two walks with five strikeouts. It was the most innings he’s thrown since he went six innings in Yankee Stadium on Sept. 25, 2011, his last start of that season and his last start before Tommy John surgery in November 2011 derailed his 2012 season. “I felt great,” Lackey said after his outing Saturday afternoon. “I haven’t gone five innings for a long time, so, yeah, I’m sure I’ll be pretty sore tomorrow. But as far as ball coming out of my hand, fastball command, it was pretty good today. I was happy with it.” CSNNE: Lackey 'felt great' against Durham Bulls Some naysayers will argue the point that John Lackey looked so good, because he pitched against the Durham Bulls. Coming off of Tommy John surgery and his awful 2011 season, I'll take an outing like that from Lackey against the Chatham A's. Any positive outing will provide great mental reinforcement for Lackey...and every Red Sox fan. John Lackey continues to keep us hopeful that we will see the Lackey of pre-2011.  Related: Globe: John Lackey has another encouraging outing On Page 2, Jose Iglesias is swinging a hot bat Jose Iglesias flashed some speed in the seventh when he pulled a ball down the left field line into the corner and legged out a triple for his sixth extra-base hit this spring. Last season, in 429 at-bats split between Lowell (brief rehab), Pawtucket and Boston, Iglesias had just 15 extra-base hits. The Sox told Iglesias to build up his upper body in the off-season and to focus on driving the ball this spring and the results have been impressive."The aggressiveness in the swing, and the hard contact, have shown up here in the times he's been on the field,'' said manager John Farrell. "It's been very encouraging.'' CSNNE: Red Sox Notes: Iglesias flashes some speed Iglesias is making it very difficult to make my argument that he should start the season in Pawtucket. Not that he is tearing the cover off the ball, but he is making great strides in his offensive game. He has a homer and 5 RBI in addition to those previously mentioned 6 extra-base hits, this spring. If Iglesias can keep the progress up, we might have ourselves an All-Star at short in the near future. Related: Globe: Iggy pop? Iglesias shows some power Jose Iglesias was 2 for 4 with a triple in today's game against the Rays. It was his sixth extra-base hit of the spring in 38 at-bats. The shortstop had three extra-base hits in 68 major-league at-bats last season and 11 in 353 at-bats fort Triple A Pawtucket. Iglesias spent much of the winter improving his upper-body strength. He also has worked on driving the ball with more authority. “The aggressiveness in the swing and the hard contact has shown up here the times he’s been on the field, it’s been very encouraging,” Farrell said. - See more at: http://www.boston.com/sports/baseball/redsox/extras/extra_bases/2013/03/iggy_pop_iglesi.html#sthash.ftON5T6u.dpuf Jose Iglesias was 2 for 4 with a triple in today's game against the Rays.
