(AP Photo/Michael Dwyer) Every morning, we compile the links of the day and dump them here... highlighting the big storyline. Because there's nothing quite as satisfying as a good morning dump. Brandon Snyder recalls the first time he faced Jake Peavy. He took a ball and Peavy began screaming on the mound. Snyder stepped out, confused and a bit shaken. “I was like, 'Whoa,'” Snyder recalled. “My buddy was actually catching him. 'Is he yelling at me?' And he's like, 'No, no, no. He's not.'” It turns out that self-flagellation is one of the more entertaining pieces of the Peavy package, and it was on full display tonight in his outstanding Red Sox debut against the Arizona Diamondbacks. [...] “It's a breath of fresh air,” said manager John Farrell. “Just raw competitive spirit. It's new to us, much like Koji (Uehara) was at the beginning of the year. Guys take note and they appreciate just his 100 percent competitive spirit. It's great.” For the hitters who've faced him before, it was no surprise. “I used to enjoy the (expletive) out of it,” said DH David Ortiz. “That's how he pumps himself up. It used to pump me up, too. He's not trying to show anybody up or embarrass anybody.” Herald: Jake Peavy outstanding - and demostrative - in victorious Red Sox debut Peavy was fun to watch last night. For those who did not watch or listen to the game, Peavy went 7+ strong innings, giving up 4 hits, 2 runs, 2 walks, and struck out 7 (99 pitches). His emotion and energy was a huge hit with the Fenway crowd, and with John Farrell. It was also a huge start as the Rays also won last night, so the Sox were able to hold on to the 1 game lead over Tampa. The Sox are going to need a similar performance from Doubront this afternoon, and everyone else for the rest of the season to help build this damn lead back up.
