Every morning, we compile the links of the day and dump them here... highlighting the big storyline. Because there's nothing quite as satisfying as a good morning dump.

The impact that Johnny Pesky made on the Red Sox during his 70-year career as a player, manager, coach and ambassador was evident on Sunday night when Hall of Famer Carlton Fisk walked onto the field at the start of the team’s tribute.

Pedro Martinez, Roger Clemens, Jim Rice, Jason Varitek, and Tim Wakefield followed along with all of the players on the present-day roster.

Jerry Remy, Reggie Smith, Bill Lee, Keith Foulke, Lou Merloni and Rich Gedman also were among those on hand along with former coaches Brad Mills, Ron Jackson, Lynn Jones and Dick Berardino.

All spent countless hours with Pesky at Fenway Park and during spring training.

“It's probably a cumulative memory of John. You can talk about all the guys that played for this team over the course of the years, but he sort of remained the face of the organization for the longest time,” Fisk said.

“He loved the game of baseball. He was one of those guys that transcended a lot of eras.”

Globe: A fond farewell

From the start of the day with the 6 in the shortstop dirt to everyone going to sign the Pesky Pole, it was a great tribute to Pesky and showed his impact on this team for the seven decades he was a part of this franchise.

Also, it was great that there isn't a controversy about who wasn't there, what was said, and all the usual chaos that has come from the 2012 team. It was all focused on Pesky and it was the tribute that we were waiting for and that he deserved.

Also, this was probably the first time in the past decade that seeing Roger Clemens (and those frosted tips!) didn't make me cringe. Go figure it would take a tribute for Johnny Pesky for that to happen.
