Every morning, we compile the links of the day and dump them here... highlighting the big storyline. Because there's nothing quite as satisfying as a good morning dump. Jake Peavy blamed himself, mostly for the cutter he left up in the strike zone for the game-tying hit. Will Middlebrooks took his share of the responsibility, too, after not fielding a hard-hit one-hopper that started the winning rally. But, really, none of the Red Sox could be absolved for what happened at Rogers Centre last night. In the finale of a 10-game road trip, their longest of the season, the Red Sox stranded more men than an episode of “Survivor” — 12 runners, in all — en route to a 2-1 loss to the Blue Jays that capped a 4-6 swing through Houston, Kansas City and Toronto and may even have raised the question of whether they’re one hitter short of being a legitimate contender. “We feel good about ourselves,” second baseman Dustin Pedroia said after the Red Sox’ lead in the AL East was shaved to two games over the Tampa Bay Rays. “We’re in first place. It’s a confident team. We’ll forget about this one and get ready for tomorrow.” Herald: Sox stranded at border On a road trip where they face the Houston Astros (worst team in the majors), the Kansas City Royals, and the Toronto Blue Jays, the Red Sox went 4-6. For a team in first place and trying to separate themselves from the rest of the pack, they did not help themselves in the least bit during this trip. Now, they head home for a quick three-game series versus, who else, but the Yanks. The Yankees are 8.5 games behind the Red Sox and would love to cut it to 5.5 games. And you know what? The Yankees are a team that could do it. They have Pettitte, Kuroda, and Sabathia hurling versus Doubront, Lackey, and Dempster. Alfonso Soriano is averaging about 8 RBI a game now. A-rod, as much as we hate him, seems to always show up for Red Sox series. If the Red Sox drop two of three or even get swept, Red Sox Nation should start sweating. They have to travel across the country to San Francisco following an 8:00pm national night game versus the Yankees, which will end around 2:00am (half-kidding).
