Every morning, we compile the links of the day and dump them here... highlighting the big storyline. Because there's nothing quite as satisfying as a good morning dump. The Red Sox [team stats] plan to interview two more candidates for their vacant hitting coach position. Today Craig Counsell will come in for his interview, and later in the week Greg Colbrunn will have his turn. Counsell, 42, played in the National League exclusively for 16 seasons, his last one in 2011. He is a special assistant to Milwaukee Brewers general manager Doug Melvin. Colbrunn, 43, played 13 seasons, his last one a brief stint with the Arizona Diamondbacks in 2004. He is a Single-A hitting coach for the New York Yankees. Already, the Red Sox have interviewed former big leaguers Rick Schuand Scott Fletcher, as well as their minor league hitting instructor, Victor Rodriguez. Given the workload, the club is toying with the idea of having two hitting coaches.Dave Magadan left for the same job with the Texas Rangers earlier this offseason. Herald: Counsell at bat, Colbrunn on deck  Man, the Sox really can't go without having an exhausting search huh? We thought once the manager spot was filled, that we wouldn't have to go through this.  But now that we're doing this for possibly two positions, the Sox bringing in Counsell & Colbrunn makes me wonder: why bring in guys who played their entire career in the National League? Why not bring in someone who knows these pitchers here a little more and help them study their weaknesses? This isn't a knock on either of these guys, especially to Counsell, whose batting stance I occasionally mimic in wiffleball games. But really? Why are we trying to stockpile guys from the 2001 Arizona Diamondbacks. is Luis Gonzalez next in line for an interview? It also surprises me that they haven't called former Rangers & Cubs hitting coach Rudy Jaramillo. He's got a proven track record in the American League and has helped develop plenty of guys into quality hitters. He seems more than capable of doing the job and handling it by himself. Hopefully they at least give him an interview.
