Does anyone have a more wicked pitching arsenal than Yu Darvish? The Texas Rangers stud pitcher matched up with Justin Verlander on Thursday in a game that surprisingly turned into a slugfest. While Verlander was rocked and couldn’t make it through three innings, Darvish got through eight to pick up his seventh win of the season. But there was one moment in particular that must be recognized: the time when Darvish made Miguel Cabrera look foolish. Darvish was facing Cabrera in the top of the fifth with the Rangers up 8-4 and the count 0-1. Darvish threw Cabrera a 62 mph curveball, and Miggy took a vicious hack at it. He was so off balance after missing on the swing that he stumbled across the plate and was left to give a smile. Why? Because nobody makes him look foolish like that. Cabrera is the reigning AL MVP and last year’s triple crown winner. He’s the best hitter in baseball. That doesn’t happen very often. But with Darvish pitching, anything is possible. Yu Darvish throws "Eephus pitch" to strike out Miguel Cabrera (Video)

It's been awhile since I've seen an "Eephus pitch" thrown at the Major League level but clearly, Rangers pitcher Yu Darvish knows how to use it. Watch as he delivers a 62-mph pitch past Detroit Tigers slugger Miguel Cabrera: (Courtesy of It's Always Sunny in Detroit)

When you can’t beat him (Cabrera was 3 for 9 lifetime off Darvish), throw it like a dad would to his ten-year old son. YouTube

Yu Darvish’s High Pitch Count Against Tigers No Reason to Hold Ron Washington’s Feet to Fire

Looking to kill some time? Stare at the wall or argue about pitch counts. It doesn’t really matter, because each activity will leave you shaking your head when you decide to rejoin society. Yu Darvish tossed 130 pitches in eight innings against the Tigers on Thursday despite the Rangers leading 10-4. Manager Ron Washington’s decision to leave Darvish in the game for so long has...

Rangers manager defends heavy use of Yu Darvish

ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) -- Ron Washington was not about to question himself Friday over Yu Darvish's recent workload. Especially since Darvish felt fine after throwing a career-high 130 pitches Thursday night against the Detroit Tigers. The Texas manager had no qualms about sending his ace back to the mound in the eighth inning against the Detroit Tigers even though the Rangers...

Can anyone stop Miguel Cabrera from winning another Triple Crown?

Miguel Cabrera is the reigning 2012 MVP.  There was much debate over whether he should be or not, and in case you missed it, the Cabrera-Trout argument eventually morphed into a misguided old school vs new school battle for legitimacy.  Last year, clearly old school won the fight among the among the BBWAA, as Cabrera’s Triple Crown topped Trout’s incredible all-around season...

Cabrera almost wins it for Tigers

DETROIT -- More than 40,000 people thought the Detroit Tigers had just beaten the Houston Astros Wednesday afternoon. Jim Leyland wasn't one of them. When Miguel Cabrera launched a towering drive toward the scoreboard in right-center field, the sold-out crowd came to its feet, and so did most of Cabrera's teammates. Even if it wasn't a walk-off grand slam, all the...

Cabrera, Tigers get best of Rangers as win streak ends

ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) -- Miguel Cabrera went 3 for 4 with a go-ahead double in the sixth inning to back Rick Porcello and lift the Detroit Tigers over the Texas Rangers 2-1 Friday night in a matchup of division leaders. Jim Leyland earned his 1,699th win as a major league manager as the Tigers remained tied with Cleveland atop the AL Central. Porcello (2-2) allowed one run and...

Rangers rock Verlander, give Darvish big win

ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) -- Geovany Soto ended Justin Verlander's night with a three-run homer that capped a seven-run third, and Yu Darvish lasted eight innings even though an anticipated pitching duel fizzled in the Texas Rangers' 10-4 victory against the Detroit Tigers on Thursday night. Soto's drive just over the wall in left field came after Verlander walked in two...

Yu Darvish Early Favorite For A.L. Cy Young?

Thursday’s Detroit Tigers-Texas Ranger’s game in Texas had the potential to feature a pitching duel for the ages. Unfortunately for Detroit however, their resident ace, Justin Verlander, wasn’t able to fulfill his end of the deal. Lasting just over two innings, Verlander allowed eight earned runs

Titus Young Continues To Set Records…Off The Field

Detroit fans have a new Triple Crown winner to celebrate and he doesn’t go by the name of Miguel Cabrera. Former Detroit Lions wide receiver Titus Young has had a rough week, to say the least. The former 2nd round draft pick in 2011 hit the trifecta after being arrested three times in the past week, making his chances of a return to the NFL about as slim as Tayshaun Prince’s...

Tigers-Rangers Preview

Justin Verlander says it's May. Yu Darvish says it's not the first great opposing pitcher he's faced, and won't be his last. True on all counts. These showdowns don't come along every day, though. And this one - the AL's strikeout king against his potential heir - is an enticing as they come. The hard-throwing right-handers from Detroit and Texas will meet...

Astros 7, Tigers 5

Brandon Barnes stood in center field and felt the wind blowing out a bit - an ominous sign when Miguel Cabrera is at the plate with the bases loaded and two out in the ninth inning. Sure enough, Cabrera lifted a deep flyball to right-center, forcing Barnes to race over with the game on the line. ''I just knew if he hit it out there, I'd have to get a good bead on it...

Porcello, Tigers edge Rangers, 2-1

Rangers 10, Tigers 4

Geovany Soto ended Justin Verlander's night with a three-run homer that capped a seven-run third, and Yu Darvish lasted eight innings even though an anticipated pitching duel fizzled in the Texas Rangers' 10-4 victory against the Detroit Tigers on Thursday night. Soto's drive just over the wall in left field came after Verlander walked in two runs - he had three previous...

Game 2013.39: Tigers at Rangers

22-16, 1st place, .5 games up. The Tigers are 6-1 v. the Astros, outscoring them 55-19. (They could be 7-0 with a margin of 59-19 if Tiger stadium weren’t so big…) They are 16-15 versus everyone else. So how good are the Tigers, really? Well, the numbers, as posted by Coleman yesterday, are pretty darn good. Exceptional to be honest. But only 1 game above .500 against everyone...
