Detroit Tigers: Its Official, Andy Dirks is Good
It’s time to go out on a limb and say what needs to be said, Detroit tigers Andy Dirks is not just hot right now, he’s a good ball player. Since being moved to the two spot on May 6th, here is what he has been able to accomplish- .367/.483/.683 (avg/obp/slg) with 3 HR’s, 13 [...]

The Waiver Wire: Andy Dirks
Detroit Tigers outfielder Andy Dirks has been on fire since being inserted into the lineup as a regular on April 26th and time may be running out to pick him up in any quality fantasy baseball league worth participating in this season.
Over the span of 15 games (13 games started), Dirks has gone 19-for-49 (.388 BA) with four doubles, a triple, three home runs, nine RBI and 10 runs...

Game 2012.30: Tigers at Mariners
15-14, 2 games behind Cle.
Boy, last night was fun. On a night when Verlander was far from his best (and apologetic for his on-field behavior), the offense came through and left just enough cushion for Valverde to load the bases on 3 walks (one intentional) before closing out the game. It’s been hashed and rehashed, but the blowpen has become a serious concern. In case you...

Andy Dirks to Hit Second in Place of Brennan Boesch for Tigers on Sunday
Per James Schmehl of MLive, Jim Leyland has dropped Brennan Boesch to eighth in the order. In his place will be left fielder Andy Dirks.I recommended Alex Avila for the position yesterday, but it looks like Leylend has not heeded my advice. Dirks has a .302 batting average this season, but hasn't yet drawn a walk in 44 plate appearances. So, even though his average says "...

Leyland uses charades for pinch runner signal
When Andy Dirks had to leave Tuesday’s game with a bum hamstring, Tigers’ skipper Jim Leyland needed a pinch runner. Since he was out near second base, he couldn’t just tell the 6’6″ 270 pound Brad Eldred to head out to replace Dirks. But, he could have had third base coach Gene Lamont relay the message. Or, he could have just played charades. He...

Andy Dirks Could Be A Great Hitter, If He Learns To Walk
Andy Dirks has jumped out to a pretty good start with the bat this season. He’s collected nine hits in 32 at-bats for a rather good .281 batting average. His contact ability and low strikeout rate (just 9.1% this year) appear to make him a prime candidate to hit at the top of the lineup (perhaps number two behind Austin Jackson), but Dirks’ inability to draw a walk would be...

Detroit Tigers near d-day with 3 major roster decisions
The Detroit Tigers have solved virtually nothing regarding their tough roster decisions as the final cut downs loom. This is probably a good thing as it leads one to believe that the competition is stiff enough to require as many looks as possible by management before levying a decision.
Left field is still up for grabs, Brandon Inge is still confusing things at 2nd base, and a 5th...

Dirks Looks to Build on New-found Fame
Andy Dirks isn’t going to get a starting spot. With Austin Jackson, Brennan Boesch and Delmon Young penciled in as likely starters, there isn’t much room in the outfield. But with one Major League season under his belt, Dirks could be a big asset coming off the bench if he shines this spring in Lakeland.

Free-swinging Dirks gets winning hit in winter league title game
Andy Dirks hit .251 last season. But in 219 at-bats over 78 games as a backup outfielder with the Tigers, he swung early and often in the count and was pretty successful doing so. Dirks swung at the first pitch 18% of the time and hit .341 in those plate appearances.

2011 TigsTown Player Capsule: Andy Dirks
Andy Dirks made his big league debut in 2011, emerging as a viable backup outfielder capable of playing all three spots, and doing so while hitting with some pop. While Dirks can do some things well, does he do them well enough to get back on the roster in 2012?
