Here we focus on several pitchers who could represent hope for the future, most of whom are pitching at the lower levels of the Cubs’ system.

Daytona’s pitching has moved the Cubs to within one win of the Florida State League title as Ivan Pineyro and Frank Del Valle combined for a five-hit shutout over Charlotte. Tennessee got a solid outing from Eric Jokisch and Javier Baez cracked a two-run homer as the Smokies beat Birmingham to stay alive in the Southern League playoffs.
Tennessee’s Eric Jokisch no-hit Jacksonville Monday night ending the Suns 11-game winning streak with the gem. Jokisch fanned eight and got a highlight reel catch from SS Javier Baez to preserve the no-hitter in the ninth. The Cubs dropped the first game of the VSL championship to the Mariners 7-3 while Edgar Gonzalez smacked three homers in Iowa’s win.
Eric Jokisch and two other relievers blanked the Biscuits while Rubi Sliva’s smacked a grand slam in the Smokies 13-0 win. RHP Trey Masek made his pro debut for Boise, and Zak Blair led Mesa with three hits and three RBI.
