Gorkys Hernandez is in, Evan Meek is out…again
The Pirates sent Evan Meek down to AAA because his ERA was blowing up like Ross Morgan’s friend requests. Eight days after Meeker got demoted, he was called back up to replace Alex Presley. Presley definitely needed some minor time but we still didn’t get why Meek was brought back so quickly. Well, one appearance later, Meeker is heading back to Indianapolis and Gorkys...

Pirates Promote Gorkys Hernandez, Demote Evan Meek
I’m just going to come right out and say it. I love the promotion of Gorkys Hernandez. He should be given every opportunity to earn a starting role. I also love Evan Meek being demoted. Only because he just doesn’t have it. This was the correct move. In fact this was the only move. The [...]

Gorkys Hernandez recalled; Evan Meek optioned to AAA
OF Gorkys Hernandez (#62) has been recalled from Triple-A Indianapolis and RHP Evan Meek has been optioned to Indy.
— Pittsburgh Pirates (@Pirates) May 18, 2012
This a pretty surprising move.
We all knew that Meek was most likely going to be sent back down to AAA-Indianapolis for this weekend’s series, but Gorkys Hernandez is not a name that was being thrown around by anyone...

Pirates activate Gorkys Hernandez, presumably not to be a designated hitter
#Pirates to activate Gorkys Hernandez.
— Michael Sanserino (@msanserino) May 18, 2012
One of my all-time biggest pet peeves is how National League teams think that "designated hitter" means "put a really crappy hitter in the field and make the guy he replaces the designated hitter." In parts of two seasons with Indianapolis, Gorkys has hit .279/.347/.383....

Gorkys Hernandez Video Recap – 4/22/12
Gorkys Hernandez was at one point rated as the #62 prospect in all of baseball when he was in the Atlanta Braves organization. However, his stock has fallen quite a bit since being acquired by the Pirates in the Nate McLouth trade in 2009. Pirates Prospects ranks him now as the #24 prospect in the Pirates organization. He still possesses and excellent glove and arm and should make...
