Diamondbacks bullpen back in shutdown form
PHOENIX -- David Hernandez showed up at work Wednesday wearing a t-shirt with a big, backward K on the front. It caught at least one clubhouse observer looking.
But why not? If you have it, flaunt it, and Hernandez and the rest of the Diamondbacks relievers have a lot of reasons to feel good about themselves these days.
The D-backs won the NL West with a solid, sometimes spectacular...

Marte to Make Debut; Hernandez Optioned
The Pittsburgh Pirates made several moves on Thursday. They optioned outfielder Gorkys Hernandez to Triple-A Indianapolis.
Left-hander Wandy Rodriguez was added to the 25-man roster.
Rodriguez was acquired from the Houston Astros on Saturday night in exchange for three prospects. His next scheduled start is TBA. Rodriguez last started on Monday.
Prospect Starling Marte was also officially...
Gorkys Hernandez recalled; Jose Tabata optioned to AAA
OF Gorkys Hernandez has been recalled from Triple-A and OF Jose Tabata has been optioned to Triple-A.
— Pittsburgh Pirates (@Pirates) July 3, 2012
This move isn’t very unexpected. Jose Tabata has been an enormous disappointment this season. Over 72 games and 252 at-bats, he is hitting just .230/.295/.341 with three home runs. He also has stolen just eight bases in 17 attempts...
Gorkys Hernandez recalled; Evan Meek optioned to AAA
OF Gorkys Hernandez (#62) has been recalled from Triple-A Indianapolis and RHP Evan Meek has been optioned to Indy.
— Pittsburgh Pirates (@Pirates) May 18, 2012
This a pretty surprising move.
We all knew that Meek was most likely going to be sent back down to AAA-Indianapolis for this weekend’s series, but Gorkys Hernandez is not a name that was being thrown around by anyone...
Pirates call up outfielder Hernandez, demote Meek
The Pittsburgh Pirates have recalled outfielder Gorkys Hernandez from Class AAA Indianapolis and have optioned right-handed pitcher Evan Meek to the same club, the Pirates announced Friday. Hernandez, who is making his first trip to the majors, has hit .266 with two home runs and 14 RBIs in 38 games this season. Hernandez was acquired in a 2009 deal with Atlanta that sent Nate...
Pirates activate Gorkys Hernandez, presumably not to be a designated hitter
#Pirates to activate Gorkys Hernandez.
— Michael Sanserino (@msanserino) May 18, 2012
One of my all-time biggest pet peeves is how National League teams think that "designated hitter" means "put a really crappy hitter in the field and make the guy he replaces the designated hitter." In parts of two seasons with Indianapolis, Gorkys has hit .279/.347/.383...
Gorkys Hernandez Video Recap – 4/22/12
Gorkys Hernandez was at one point rated as the #62 prospect in all of baseball when he was in the Atlanta Braves organization. However, his stock has fallen quite a bit since being acquired by the Pirates in the Nate McLouth trade in 2009. Pirates Prospects ranks him now as the #24 prospect in the Pirates organization. He still possesses and excellent glove and arm and should make...

Winter Leagues 12/26 — RBI And Big Run For Hernandez
Hope everyone had a great holiday weekend… Monday brought a quiet night in winter league action. The Dominican League is done with the regular season and awaiting playoffs. The Puerto Rican League is still on holiday break, as is the Australian League. Rogelio Noris continues to get only sporadic playing time with Mazatlan in the Mexican Pacific League.
