San Diego Padres Outfielder Kyle Blanks Faces Season-Ending Surgery

The San Diego Padres have not had the greatest seasons in past memories. I mean who could forget almost attaining a losing record and still making it to the playoffs in 2005. The team took a big hit Sunday when they learned that young outfielder Kyle Blanks will undergo season-ending shoulder surgery to repair the torn labrum in his left shoulder, according to Dan Hayes of the North...

Padres infielder-outfielder Kyle Blanks will undergo season-ending surgery on his left shoulder, the second time he's had a year cut short by a major operation. The Padres provided the update Sunday. Blanks tore his labrum while swinging a bat. He missed time in spring training with the injury, but started the season with San Diego and played in four games before going on the...

Daily Friar 4.15.12

What can I say about this Padres team? They are looking lousy, that about sums up everything. After scoring 8 runs Friday night and putting up a reasonable fight, they only put up 1 run on 2 hits last night. I wonder if the ball was on a tee would our guys be able to hit it? Again I saw way too many pitches being taken right down the middle. But they were swinging away at pitches...

Padres Notes: Position Battles Heat Up

A few Padres notes from Saturday afternoon. RHP Dale Thayer and C Brad Davis were reassigned to minor league camp. The Padres now have 35 players in big league camp. Which means they need to trim 10 more players off the roster. Corey Brock tweeted that Bud Black will announce the rotation Sunday morning. Kyle Blanks has hit the ground running since returning to the field on...

No time like the present

Kyle Blanks strikes me as a pretty subdued guy. I’ve seen him in spring training and in interviews, and the impression I get is of a player who more or less rolls with the punches. I suppose this type of demeanor is good, considering he’s the size (6’6”, 270) of an NFL defensive end. He could do some serious damage to the clubhouse if he had a temper. Then again, most baseball...

Blanks appreciative of baseball journey

During the 2009 season, then-22-year-old Kyle Blanks learned a new position, had a run-in with a swarm of bees and later lugged his 6-foot-6, 270-pound body around the bases in a mad dash for an inside-the-park home run at Petco Park. That seems so long ago for Blanks.

Free Kyle Blanks?

In 2009, at the precocious age of 22, Kyle Blanks stormed into the Show and promptly swatted 10 big flies, and his .372 wOBA — in a limited sample — was third-best on the Padres. In other words, he had arrived, and the Friars happily installed him as their cleanup hitter for the 2010 campaign. But after a slow start, Blanks was felled by Tommy John surgery, and has seemingly...
