ARLINGTON, Texas — In an offseason that is expected to be chock full of roster moves, the Texas Rangers have the first few before the winter truly begins.
Mike Foltynewicz, Hunter Wood and outfielder Jason Martin have elected free agency.
Monday’s placements come just days after Charlie Culberson was placed on the COVID IL.
Rangers starter Mike Foltynewicz has had plenty of struggles this season. Not only does he lead Major League Baseball in home runs allowed, but when he faces any team that's not the Oakland Athletics, he's turned in a 6.58 ERA.
Things looked a little better on Thursday, but the Texas Rangers found themselves in the loss column for the ninth straight game. The Rangers were swept in a four-game series by the Detroit Tigers, with Thursday's 7-5 loss as the nail in the coffin before the team heads to Houston for three games.
It was not a good day for the Texas Rangers. It might have actually been the worst day of the season — one where the Rangers are now 23 games under .500 at 35-58.
ARLINGTON, Texas — After snapping a six-game losing streak on Monday, the Texas Rangers fell back into the loss column on Tuesday. The Rangers fell to the New York Yankees by a score of 7-4, dropping them back to six games under .500 at 19-25.
The Texas Rangers have made their first roster moves of spring training. Right-handed pitchers Joe Gatto and Tyler Phillips were optioned to Triple-A Round Rock on Sunday.
Had the Braves given Foltynewicz even two more starts, he could’ve taken free agency after an outright assignment and gone to another club. Now, the organization will at least have the chance to see if he can right the ship and contribute later in the season.
Atlanta clearly had enough after his latest brutal start on Monday.
