Mr. Angelos? Um, We Got Kicked Out Of Korea
You really have to give the Baltimore Orioles credit, there giving this a really good try. It’s not easy to be the single most inept organization in baseball, especially when your competition is the Pirates, who haven’t had a winning season in about 2 decades, the Mets, who hired and then waited 5 years to fire Omar Minaya and subsequently got Madoffed out of a few hundred million...

The Baltimore Orioles defeated righthander Brad Bergesen in salary arbitration on Thursday.
Bergesen will receive $800,000 in salary this season - as opposed to his request of $1.2 million. The victory in salary arbitration gives the clubs a 3-2 lead over the players this year.
The 26-year-old Bergesen, who made $434,000 in 2011, posted a 2-7 mark with a 5.70 ERA last season.

Orioles interested in Nick Johnson
The Baltimore Orioles are reportedly interested in signing former Major League first baseman Nick Johnson to a minor league contract. Johnson was at one time the top prospect in the Yankees farm system. He never reached the lofty expectations of others but did have several solid seasons for the Washington Nationals. Johnson has battled injuries throughout his career. He missed...

Korean Baseball bans Orioles scouts
The Korean Baseball Association has banned Baltimore Orioles scouts from all sanctioned Korean Baseball events according to a report from The Baltimore Sun. The move comes as a result of Baltimore’s signing of 17 year old pitching prospect Kim Seong-min. Korean officials contend that the Orioles acted improperly by signing the youngster to a professional contract without...

Orioles Banned From South Korea After Signing 17-Year-Old Pitching Prospect
The Baltimore Orioles are in hot water with a governing body that does not want their organization near their premises. In South Korea that is. The Orioles have been banned from attending games by the South Korea governing body of baseball after signing 17-year-old pitching prospect Kim Seong-min for $550,000 in January. In an attempt to stop Major League Baseball from draining its...

Thoughts on Nick Johnson and Yoenis Cespedes; Other Stuff
Yesterday, the Baltimore Sun reported that the Orioles were on the verge to signing first baseman Nick Johnson to a minor league deal. Well, this deal is another in a good amount of 'value' or 'bargain-bin' contracts that Dan Duquette has offered to veterans and minor league free agents this season.
The Orioles are closing in on a minor league deal with veteran...

Fan Fest Notes & Thoughts: Alfredo Simon
During Orioles FanFest, pitcher Alfredo Simon spoke with the media for a couple of minutes.
Simon updated everyone on his workouts, status heading into Spring Training, his life this offseason versus what happened to him last year, and outlook for the season.
Here are some quotes and notes I was able to pick up from him.

Bergesen, Orioles go to salary arbitration hearing
Right-hander Brad Bergesen and the Baltimore Orioles have argued their cases in salary arbitration.
Bergesen asked for a raise from $434,000 to $1.2 million during Wednesday's hearing, and the Orioles argued he should be paid $800,000.
A decision by arbitrators Robert Herzog, Mark Burstein and Elizabeth Neumeier is expected Thursday.
Bergesen was 2-7 with a 5.70 ERA in 12...

Is Adam Jones the next Oriole to be traded?
The Orioles traded Jeremy Guthrie to the Rockies on Monday, the same day his arbitration hearing was scheduled to be heard. Could CF Adam Jones be the next Oriole to be sent packing from Charm City? Jones is two years from free agency and would seem to be a prime building block for a the long downtrodden Orioles. Jones is still just 26 and has already been an All Star and Gold...

The Orioles Rebuilding Plan Keeps Going and Going...
With the trade of Jeremy Guthrie this week, it looks like the Orioles long-term project of rebuilding the organization is one with no end in sight. As Spring Training opens up in a little more than a week and it’s obvious the team needs - a) pitching, pitching, and more pitching; plus, another big bat. It looks as if there will be a lot of pitchers in camp, and except for...

Not a fan of the Jeremy Guthrie trade...
This afternoon, I asked people's feelings on the Jeremy Guthrie trade on Twitter, and from what I got, people hate it. I'm a bit confused why this trade happened now (despite Guthrie's arbitration hearing) and what the team got in return.
That being said, Dan Duquette held a press conference with the local and electronic media this afternoon about the trade. I didn&...

O’s Trade Jeremy Guthrie to Rockies, Get No Younger or Better
This morning, the Orioles traded pitcher Jeremy Guthrie to the Colorado Rockies. Guthrie was engaged in arbitration hearings with the club, where he had reportedly submitted a salary number of over $10 million. According to the same report, the O’s submitted a number of 7.25 million; rather than try to bridge the gap, they shipped the veteran right-hander to Colorado.

Source: Rockies get Guthrie from Orioles
The Colorado Rockies made a significant addition to their rotation on Monday, acquiring right-hander Jeremy Guthrie from the Baltimore Orioles for right-handers Jason Hammel and Matt Lindstrom, according to a major-league source.
Guthrie, 32, likely will be the Rockies' No. 1 starter. He was scheduled to go to a salary arbitration hearing Monday; he asked for $10.25 million...

FanFest Notes & Thoughts: Jason Berken
At this year’s FanFest, we got to spend a few moments with Baltimore relief pitcher Jason Berken. My recorder died, so I am going to a paraphrase what he said with some quotes; however, we talked about his season in 2011, his preparation for Spring Training in Sarasota in a few weeks and his weight loss. Berken said that his weight loss – close to 30 pounds – last season...

Manny Ramirez to Baltimore? Edwin Jackson and Other Stuff...
Why do I see Manny Ramirez with the Orioles? They seem to have an affinity for signing past-their-prime, over the hill guys. Last year, it was Vladimir Guerrero, who could still hit (albeit, without power) and didn't do much else.>>> Read More
