The mixed martial arts world figures to be a lesser place without
Glover
Teixeira in it.
A rugged, regal and revered competitor, the Brazilian exited the
stage for the final time with a 33-9 record that included his run
as
Ultimate Fighting Championship light heavyweight titleholder.
Teixeira announced his retirement following a unanimous decision
defeat to
Jamahal
Hill in the UFC 283 headliner on Jan. 21, closing the book on a
career that stretched across parts of three decades. He never
suffered more than two losses in a row—a remarkable show of
consistency in a sport often defined by its volatility.
As Teixeira settles into life as a former fighter, a look at some
of the numbers that accompanied him throughout his journey:
43: Years of age for Teixeira, who was born on Oct. 28, 1979 in
Sobralia, Brazil, some 4,700 miles to the southeast of the academy
he now runs in Danbury, Connecticut.
18: Teixeira victories by knockout or technical knockout,
accounting for 55% of his career total (33). His list of UFC
victims:

Ryan Bader
and
Fabio
Maldonado. Teixeira owns 10 other victories by submission (30%)
and five more by decision (15%).
5: Seconds needed for Teixeira to punch out
Jorge
Oliveira at a Palace Fighting Championship event on Jan. 17,
2008. It ranks as the fastest finish on his resume.
58: Rounds completed by Teixeira as a mixed martial artist. He
involved the judges on 10 different occasions and carried a 5-5
record in those bouts.
953: Significant strikes landed by Teixeira as a UFC light
heavyweight, placing him second on the promotion’s all-time list at
205 pounds. Only
Jon Jones has
been credited with more (1,463).
20: Consecutive wins for Teixeira from May 5, 2006 to Sept. 4,
2013. It was the longest such streak of his 42-fight career.
500,000: Dollars in post-fight bonuses banked by Teixeira across
his 23 appearances in the UFC. He was awarded “Performance of the
Night” four times, “Fight of the Night” four times, “Knockout of
the Night” once and “Submission of the Night” once.

trade. In addition to his 16-7 mark in the UFC, he went 4-0 in

champion. He captured the 205-pound crown with a first-round
rear-naked choke submission of
Jan
Blachowicz at UFC 267 on Oct. 30, 2021, then relinquished it
when he submitted to a fifth-round rear-naked choke from
Jiri
Prochazka at UFC 275 on June 12, 2022.

Jones,

Schwartz—who defeated Teixeira. They boast a cumulative .789
winning percentage at 177-47-1.
