Cory Sandhagen puzzled by Chito Vera’s ‘greasy hair’ accusation toward Sean O’Malley after UFC 299 loss
Christopher Hanewinckel-USA TODAY Sports

Cory Sandhagen , Marlon Vera , and current bantamweight king Sean O’Malley have been engaging in a mild triangle of banters. While nothing viciously targeted, Sandhagen prefers ‘Suga’ and his chance as a definitive striker in all long runs. After his recent title loss though, Chito Vera is not happy with Cory Sandhagen dishing out free judgment. O’Malley notched his first maiden defense at UFC 299.

Attending The MMA Hour (for MMAFighting on SBN), he even dissed the pseudo-influencer in Sandhagen. With a brutally loud performance, Sean O’Malley edged out Vera (50-45, 50-45, 50-44) to a decision win in Miami. However, in the fallout, Vera accused him of having greased his hair. This, the 21-9-1 MMA, 15-8 UFC title challenger blames for unsuccessful clinches and grapples.

In an interview with Fanatics View, here’s what Sandhagen said on the matter:

I mean I can't really imagine a situation where I lose, and then my first inclination is to...like tweet at everyone that had a negative comment about my loss...I also think that there's a level of respect that we give to each other, um based off of how we perform and...you know...like showing new abilities every fight. During the segment with MMA Journo James Lynch (@LynchOnSports), the fighter nudged he would rather rest and recover after an explosive performance. Hence, Vera’s inclination to resort to a social media tirade surprises him. Also, he says that there’s a certain respect that comes with such athletic performances. And O’Malley’s championship performance was just that.

Currently, at 18-1 MMA, 10-1 UFC, the champ rectified his lone skid to Vera. Thus effectively removing any doubt of his title-worthy mettle. Hence, Sean O’Malley didn’t shy away from confidently lambasting the rival for his claims, on his “TimboSugarShow” podcast. Even his hair stylist took offense at the brazen claims.

Who is Sean O’Malley’s hair stylist?

Bantamweight champ Sean O’Malley recently executed a picturesque strike-only performance at UFC 299. ‘Suga’ is famous for his striking ability, his Quintet: Ultra, and 155lbs Advanced No-gi division days. Or that he is a Dana White‘s Contender Series (DWCS) gem and fan-favorite. The fighter is famous on the TikTok market, with somewhat a nonchalant funnyman demeanor. However, his USP is his unique hairstyle.

Recently, Marlon Vera blamed his hair for his recent loss; a claim the fight community has dismissed as frustrated ramblings. Even peer Cory Sandhagen was surprised.

UFC 299 ‘Embedded,’ Vlog Series videos see O’Malley visit Claudia Rubies and get his hair perm set before the fight. From turning his hair red at UFC 280. To mimic the Ecuadorian colors before facing Vera (of Ecuadorian origin) on the UFC 252 ‘Embedded,’ Vlog Series 2; the fighter does it all. Rubies, along with Shelby Aldstadt (co-owner of Golden Hour Hair Lounge, @goldenhourhairhb) works on his hair.

Accordingly, she has sniped back at Vera’s claims of the hair being too greasy. Currently, Rubies has braided and blended his hue pink to match his wrapped Lamborghini Huracan and fight gear. However, for UFC 299, the color got more dynamic tinges.
